A friend of mine writes for a local paper, and she's been subbing and filling in for another paper, and that second paper asked her to recommend someone to take the position on. She told them about me, and they're excited to meet me!

It's not a big deal, it would be the position of education reporter. I'd go to the board meetings and also interview teachers and principals for the school system, do small teacher profile pieces and report on test scores and things like that. It's a paying gig, but it doesn't pay a lot. It will however, give me a little extra cash and some great exposure, I'll be meeting with board members and principals so that maybe when I finish my degree and am looking for a teaching job I'll have some more contacts.

At any rate, I don't know if I have it for certain or not, but my friend is very positive about it. I'm excited! [Big Grin]

Reporting is so much fun. You may never want to go back to teaching! [Smile]

Good luck, I hope it comes through for you.

And then when you burn out of reporting you will be in an excellent position to get a job in education pr, marketing and communications.

Congratulations on your first step on the path that leads to the dark side.

Don't know yet.

It's not really a traditional job that one interviews for. Heck, I hesitate calling it a job. When I say it's for minimal money, I mean minimal money. Basically my friend doesn't want to keep writing for both papers, so the editor of the second paper told her okay, but find your replacement. I am who she is putting forth as her replacement.

The only hold up is that my friend doesn't know if the editor will have a problem with the fact that I don't live in the community the paper serves. They may want a "hometown" person whose kids actually attend that school system. Then again, my friend doesn't live there either, so she doesn't think it's a huge problem, but it might be an issue.

If I don't get it it's no skin off my teeth, but I think it would be fun and get me some exposure in the local education community, so I would like to do it, but won't be crushed if the editor finds someone else that she likes better for the job.

Okay, so this is not going to work.

Turns out the meetings would be on a day when I'm over committed already - my oldest has scholar's bowl practice, then Em has gymnastics, then the oldest has to be fetched from scholar's bowl practice, then Em picked up, then both oldest and youngest daughter taken to dance class. Somewhere in that I have to feed the kids dinner too.

I thanked my friend for recommending me, but it's just not going to be possible. And honestly, the paper needs someone from the community with a personal stake in that school system, I don't even live in the same county.

It was an exciting thought for a short while, but it's best I focus on my family and my own schoolwork right now.
