I have a book related puzzle to solve and where best to go but hatrack? With all the book worms here we must collectively be able to recognise these 5 books!
Please help, I'm stummped!!

1) A professor of religious symbology at Harvard University is called in to solve a murder of the curatorof a Paris museum. The quest leads him to discover the truth behind the story of the Holy Grail.
2) The heroine of this book, a little girl, dreams of being able to bring together all the people she loves under one roof. On the day of her brother's birthday picnic, she and her friends find their way to a little home she has dreamed of, travelling by dogcart, landau, victoria, govern-ess cart and, shockingly, motor car.
3) A sailor, imprisoned for many years for a crime he did not commit, befriends an old clergyman who teaches him history, science,languages, and philosophy. The clergyman, knowing he is close to death confides in the sailor the location of a hidden treasure.
4) Travelling far and wide in search of a floating land, a prince encouters exciting adventures and interesting people. They include two rich and wicked princes, the prettiest girl in the world, and a tortoise with an unusual facial feature.
5) After enchanting a broom with a flower, Mary flies to a college for witches. She discovers that the experiments taking place there are sinis-ter and horrifying. The author reccomends the Helibroom for readers who might wish to undertake such a journey themselves.

Number 3 has been made into a recent blockbuster movie, an anime switching the clergyman out for a space alien (though it works oddly well despite that), and is a sad tale of love and betrayal. The author is considered by some to be unintelligent and rude for superficial reasons.

YES of course I could look up the answer at unfiction, but I thought more fun to try hatrack first. Kind of like asking friends.

ummm..I don't see how #4 is The Neverending Story.
Two rich and wicked princes? don't think they were in the book at all.
prettiest girl in the world? I don't think moon child fits exactly, and I know Ende never said that in the book.
Tortoise with an unusual facial feature? Nothing was unusual, it was just really large.

#4 is definetly not the Neverending Story... The description sounds vaguely like it, but if you were describing the Neverending Story, you would never say those things. Atreyu was trying to discover where the Nothing was coming from, (floating land?) and the tortoise was a minor character.

It struck me at first that #4 might've been Gulliver's Travels, but it can't be, for several reasons. I settled on Never-Ending Story for being the closest thing I could think of.

Ah, well, it turns out to be a book I've never heard of. And I fancied myself a bibliophile... Tsk. What kind of sick madman invented this quiz anyway. I think I'll make up my own quiz.
