I picked this up on a whim a few months back and it's still holding my interest. The writing is decent, and the premise is intriguing.
A small town is surrounded by an invisible sphere. While light and oxygen can get in, nothing else can get in or out. So, the townspeople are trapped inside. The military has already tried to blow open the sphere with no luck.
Inside the sphere with the townspeople are aliens of some kind that look exactly like beautiful young women. They hate the human women and try and kill them when they can. The men, on the other hand, they seduce in order to have sex with them. They don't talk, nor do they force the men to have sex with them.
After having sex with a man, they lay eggs, which hatch more alien women.
While it sounds somewhat cheesy, it's not. The men , up until the last issue, were all for killing the alien women. The last issue or two, though, there has been a schism within the townspeople, resulting in some of the men running away and some of the men being imprisoned in a barn.
The plot has subtexts of sexual politics that are fascinating.
I didn't start reading "Girls" until about four months a go, so there may have been some things in the earlier issues that I missed, but from reading the letters column, I think I've pretty much gotten the main gist of the comic.
I encourage everyone to give this comic a look. It's definitely an entertaining departure from your usual comic book fare.

I met the Luna brothers at a con earlier this year, and told them they were ruining cheap, meaningless sex for me. After some giggling, they assured me solemnly that was all they could hope for.

The stuff that's in the comic book is more along the lines of immediate survival than social commentary, which is what I was referring to.

Because it was bad enough I had to somehow disregard all the other drawbacks of meaningless sex, they had to add the fear of engendering naked-woman-killer eggs along with it? Enough to make a man stay home.

To elaborate a little, put yourself in the place of the middle-aged wife who cannot appeal to police to chase these 'girls' away, and must rely on the good character of her husband to keep her safe and not have sex with the women.

Does the comic get into the psychology of the aliens to any great degree? Are there aliens who are important characters in their own right, or does the story focus entirely on the humans?

The aliens are not presented as individuals; the "women," in fact, appear to be near-mindless. They're clever and perceptive, but only mimic speech and are perfectly cooperative, almost like drones.

last issue many of them killed a giant bear chasing one of the men by collectively jumping on the bear and pummeling it to death.

No, no, no. At this point, the 'girls' live out in the woods. The men have been with the women keeping the girls away.
For plot reasons I don't want to give away, some of the men have been forced out in the woods with the girls. The men who have, ah, partaken of the girls are still considered beyond the pale.

Usually I don't go for hippie girls, but it's still sounding pretty good. I wonder how many of the wives in town would fist-fight a bear for her husband?
