Libbie and spouse need to be delivered from the misguided Big Bear relatives, and we're just the people to do it! [Big Grin]

Where: My place (unless y'all want to do it somewhere else). It's in the Pico-Robertson area of West L.A.

When: Dunno. One-ish?

Why: Because it has been waaaay too long since the last SoCal get-together. And 'cuz Libbie seems pretty cool. [Wink]

We'll be there as long as we're not going out anywhere; your house would be fine, given how the weather has been this month.

I have choir practice until one and Jeff has a calling that usually takes him that long or a little longer, so we wouldn't be there until a little later in the afternoon (two or two-thirty-ish.) But you all are of course free to start without us. [Smile]

And I agree, Libbie seems cool and I want to meet her. (She's not real yet, is she? She's going to become Instantly Real!)

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Oooh, and if she becomes real, I become real! GASP!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Only if you hang out with her AFTER she's real. [Razz]

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Given she lives less than 5 miles away from me, that won't be too difficult. -_-

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Well, there you go, then. [Wink]

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Nyeeeaaaahhhhh! [Taunt]

<taps kqueen's shoulder> You're it!

<runs away> Tee hee! Hee hee hee hee haw!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

*sniffs* I've been "it" since before you knew what "it" was. So poo on you. [Razz]

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Please. I put the "it" in...

...I can already see PJ hovering over me, staff of censoring beatdowns at the ready.

I'm Real...! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Can't we cave a Jerusalem get-together? I didn't make it to Paris last time, blame the Lord, or my father, whichever you want. [Frown]

Actually I think retroactive real was allowed. But it requires that Ero meets at least one other, or Will joins hatrack.

I've sort of met Libbie, I did talk to her in person this summer, but I didn't know she had just registered for Hatrack, I'd have been super excited about that one. (We talked about a Mini Nahar).

Celaeno's real (edit to add: she's met KPC, Jhai & Human 2.0), thus if Libbie becomes real, I do as well, provided that either retroactive realness applies, or I've seen either of them since their becoming real, ne?

No thank you. Threads by me, as of recent times, are taken seriously. [Big Grin]

Yup, Ero that sounds right. In the "real hatrackers" thread I'm pretty sure retroactive realness was discussed. Check it out. Or hang out with Cea and Libbie once they are real.

Wait, Libbie's in the Bloomington clump or did you meet her somewhere else?

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

Dang, I was hoping this meant Rivka was coming to Seattle.

Didn't she say something about doing this anyway?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Yes . . . but ticket prices have gone up for the weekend that was being discussed. And I am not a fan of rain or snow. [Razz]

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

I was in Kentucky, Alcon. She actually lives in the Seattle area.

We have beautiful sunny autumns with no precipitation, ever!

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

[attempted re-rail]

We need confirmation from Libbie that the date/time/location works for her/them.

We also need to know which other SoCalians are coming . Meese? saxons? LadyDove and kiddles? magiks?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

*denies the existence of retroactive realness*

I'd love to meet LadyDove, I've never met her... And the Meeses are always cool, but I know they've got a lot on their plate with all those kiddos and that long drive.

Wait - I met you at BF? You came up to my table at the AG, right? I think I'm vaguely picturing you.

THAT MAKES US BOTH REAL!!

The 29th works for me! I'll have to let my husband know when he gets home from work today. We were talking about how we had nothing to do that day anyway. It'll be fun to meet you guys! He's probably going to be mildly annoyed at first. He is stoically avoiding reading ANY OSC because some moron somewhere told him "It's all just 'Mormons in space.'" So I am sure at first he'll think I'm going to make him hang out with a bunch of other geeks like me and talk about OSC novels all day.

But he'll get over it. He always likes meeting new people after I force him to do it. [Evil Laugh]

Anyway, yeah, the 29th should work out just fine. If it doesn't, I'll let you guys know ASAP.

<3

Or on the movie poster.

My husband has always wanted to be a "Mormon in Space." [Wink]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Oh, Libbie, does your husband like sports? Because my husband is always looking for people to talk sports with.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

(Rivka, what can I bring? A bottle or two of Sparkling Cider, a kosher cake, what?)

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Ooh, Martinelli's would be great. Yummy!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Okay, I'll bring a couple of bottles. [Smile]

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

Yeah Libbie, I was at your table. But I've been real for years. Here's a semi recent picture of me.

Unfortunately the Moose family will be in San Diego for a birthday party on the 29th. [Frown]

Alas! [Frown]

Posted by docmagik (Member # 1131) on :

The magiks will also be unable to attend that particular afternoon, but appreciate being thought of and hope everyone has a wonderful time LibbieFesting.

I completely remember you now!

Lori Witt has that Mini Nahar now. I'm not sure if she ever gets to shows in your area or not.

I know he's been thinking of what to call the next Ender novel. I liked Ender: Space Cadet, but maybe Ender: Space Mormon would be better. Except that Ender isn't actually a Mormon, a fact that my husband ignores.

When we met and were engaged, I was still a Mormon. It's not like he hates Mormons. He just resists reading about them in space, is all.

No, he really doesn't. Sorry! He's a lot like me - bookwormy and nerdish, but he's introverted and shy, where I have no problem singing Mr. Roboto in a bar full of drunken strangers.

He likes role playing games, though, and will discuss them at great length with anybody who wants to. He talks about a lot of other things, too. He's just not a sports guy, unfortunately.

Awww. I'll miss you guys and the Mooses. [Frown] But there will be other get-togethers, I am sure.

Okay, update from the husband:

Apparently, we need to check into our hotel in Buena Park on the 29th. So, we'll need to be able to head out that direction somewhat early. We're going to spend the morning of the 29th at the L.A. Zoo. Anybody is most welcome to meet up with us there, but we may be a little boring. You see, we're HUGE tapir lovers, and there are TWO species of tapir at that particular zoo, including the ultra-super-super endangered ( [Frown] ) Mountain Tapir. So, we'll mostly be standing at the tapir exhibits going, "AWWWWWWW!" for hours at a time.

Otherwise, though, we thought maybe we could do lunch somewhere near the Zoo with you guys. Does that sound good? I certainly don't want to shun the very generous offer of getting together at your place, but I am concerned that we won't make it to Buena Park before they give our hotel room away. [Eek!] ...or are you near enough to the zoo that we can still make it in time?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

[Confused] You have a reservation, right? Why would they give your hotel room away?

I'm not terribly far from the Zoo (30-45 minutes, depending on traffic). However, there are not going to be many (if any) places I can eat that are nearer to the Zoo than my place.

Mostly because I live in the middle of the largest clump of kosher restaurants in the Greater L.A. area. [Wink]

Libbie, I can't go out on Sunday, we're active LDS.

Many hotels will surrender your reservation (or claim they "lost" it) within hours of your not showing up on time, especially in peak seasons, especially if you have expensive rooms.

[*blink* I was SURE I responded to this. Hatrack is eating posts again. (No, I didn't forget to post my reply. Probably . . . )]

Late October in Buena Visa is absolutely not peak season. In any case, while I have always had to hold my registration with a credit card, I have never had one given away or "lost."

That's good - I've had a couple that were "misplaced," for checking in as little as two hours late.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I have had the same experience, eros, and not even during "peak season." Sometimes it helps to call ahead and say, "We're at such and such a place, we're running behind but we do intend to check in tonight."

Sometimes they're butts anyway.

Once I had them charge me a $10 fee for checking in late. [Roll Eyes]

I'm out of town on the 29th. [Frown]

Again with the alas! [Frown]

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

Libbie, that name seems really familiar but I'm not sure. We had one show in IN in 05, none in 06, none in 04, two in 03, about three a year in 01 and 02. (Ok that's a lie, there's Stone Fest in Shipshewana every year, didn't count it) I just can't justify travel right now, Breyerfest isn't too far, but the shows there have too much competition for my little showstring to live through. I miss it.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

So, um, what did we decide we're doing? Libbie?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

I was wondering that myself.

kq, what on earth were you doing awake at 2 am?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Waiting for Emma to fall asleep so I could get in my bed without being thrashed against.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Ouch. [Frown]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Eh, I wasn't sleepy anyway.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

*bump*

Still waiting to see if we know...

Posted by Libbie (Member # 9529) on :

Okay. Let's see. KQ can't go out on Sundays, and LadyDove is out of town on the 29th. Hrrrmmmm.... We can probably juggle our schedule to meet up on the 28th instead, if that will be okay with you guys.

I guess we'll take it one step at a time. [Big Grin] Who might be available on the 28th? Say, starting at 2:00 pm? We'll be getting in at about noonish, so that should give us time to check into our hotel in MDR and take a shower and stuff.

We have dinner plans that night with a friend, but he's flexible on the time, so we could go as late as 6:00 and still be groovy.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

rivka has a lot of restrictions on the 28th. Not to say that she won't do something, but she can't drive or ride in a car, turn anything on or off, carry things outside, cook, use a phone, etc., etc. She'll be available after... um, I think it's full dark sometime (something about stars? I don't remember), which right now is not too late compared to, say, summer, but later than I want to be out with two kids.

I'm fine with the 29th as long as we don't do anything that causes anyone to work for pay that day, like we could meet in a park or since Rivka volunteered her place that's fine with me, or wherever you want to meet as long as it's not someplace that we have to buy anything or our being there causes people to work.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

(Basically, rivka's restrictions are more than our restrictions, so I think we'll have an easier time working around our restrictions than hers.)

Posted by Libbie (Member # 9529) on :

Oh, okay! That makes sense. Meeting at Rivka's could still work out great, but we might need to adjust the time a tad, either of our own work-causing activities, or of the shinda. We'll figure it all out! I'll look at our itinerary with my hubby again this evening and we'll juggle things around. [Smile]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Sounds good. [Smile] We'll go with pretty much anything after 2-ish on the 29th. Our ward Halloween party is the 28th, too, so the 29th is definitely better for us as well as for Rivka.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Thanks for explaining in my absence, kq. [Smile]

I hope we can work something out.

Posted by Libbie (Member # 9529) on :

Gosh, you guys - I don't know if it's going to work out. [Frown] We have to be in Buena Park and check into our hotel no later than about 4:00, so we'd be very rushed on the 29th. I'm a sad panda. I really wanted to meet you all!

Well, I sincerely thank you for extending the invitation. I'm working on a business proposition with a friend in L.A., so I will be back in the future, probably this coming spring or next fall. And who knows whether I'll end up doing some weddings in the area next summer - it's always a possibility!

Hopefully we can meet up some time then. And of course, if any of you ever should come to Seattle, I will show you a good time! [Big Grin]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

We could meet you at your hotel? Buena Park is only a little further than West L.A. for us...

But if you are going to be overwhelmed, or would like some personal time, don't stress about it. [Smile]

Posted by Libbie (Member # 9529) on :

We probably could, but my husband is taking me to Medieval Times that evening, which is why we have to get there fairly early. I'll have to see what time we're supposed to be there. [Smile]
