I was watching tv down here in Crystal River, and I saw the most heart wrenching ad. They're promoting hurricane preparedness by playing excerpts from 911 calls. One guy's saying there's water coming in the house and they need someone to come get them. The guy on the phone says he's sorry but no one can be sent out in those conditions. One gal is saying her roof collapsed and they'll die if they don't get help. He tells her he'll send someone as soon as it's safe.

I feel bad for the people who may die, but I really feel bad for the guy who has to answer the calls. I can't image having to sit there for hours telling people there's nothing more anyone can do for them.

They're promoting hurricane preparedness a month before the end of hurricane season? Huh.

-o-

I think the worst job would be (warning, likely urban legend, definitely gross content ahead) the guy who has to wipe a sumo wrestler's posterior for him.

Even though Icarus was joking (I think), while the sumo job is a whole lot more gross, the hurricane job would just kill me mentally. I'd rather be the sumo guy than the person manning the phones.

Sort of reminds of the shepherd's job in Kingsmeat (OSC's short story). That was one horrifying story. *shudder*
