I have been suffering from Hatrack withdrawal this past month and a half, but now I am at my new home in Ocala, FL, and have found a wireless hotspot!

Yeah! I'm back!

My signal strength isn't great, about 45%,
probably because I am just using a $40 USB Network Adapter I bought at Wal-Mart today, but it will do...at least for now. I may go trade it in for a Network card, as those have almost double the range...700 feet rather than 400 feet. I should be getting my own connection within a week or two, and the network card is twice as fast as this USB one.

Still, it is good to be back, even if it is a bit inconsistent.

I'd be bumming if I had to leave Disney (cause i really dig on walt, his hysterical quotes and the idea behind it all...) but I'm glad for you if it was the right move for you guys!

Congrats on the (re)Uncle-dom! : )

It was, but what they pay only gets you so far. Jenni loved working there, but in some ways it cost us money rather than made us money. Jenni speaks 5 languages (6 including English), and as far as I am concerned Disney didn't treat her well enough. They kept bringing up a possible move into the International Recruiting office, but it never happened despite her unofficial work for them.

My promotion pays more than twice what we both were making in Kissimmee, and Jenni is considering going back to college to finish her degree. We are also considering having a family at this point, so we will just wait and see what happens next.

I know few people who have worked for Disney long-term. Those who do so mainly cite the benefits, rather than the pay...or they are in very high positions.

Sadly, at Disney World, one finds that most of the professional positions only go so high before the "real work" is accomplished and overseen out in California. Limited upward mobility for folks who wish to stay in FL.

During spring break I stayed at my mom's friends house just I think east of Silver Springs, on the road you take to Daytona. I liked the area, and the weather was wonderful.

Yep, and I love it here. I like cities, don't get me wrong, but it got a bit depressing being around blacktop 7 days a week. Ocala is big enough to have most of the things I want, and is only about 1-1/12 hours from Orlando for anything I can't get in Ocala. There are a lot of horse farms around, and lots of open land.

I live in a condo that is almost 1200 sq ft, and I pay less then what I was paying in Orlando...ad the cable is free. Really free, not anything fishy, it comes with the condo. I am about 25 min from work, and I love it.

I just miss my friends in Orlando...both the old ones and the new. Icky and Cor and their girls are great, and I loved meeting up with Zan and visitors at the parks.

Jenni had a blast working at Epcot, but in the end it just wasn't worth it. If I get the chance to move back in a few years I would probably take it, but only if the company makes it worth my while. [Big Grin]

Kids aren't cheap, you know. [Wink]

Congratulations on the promotion!

Ocala is a really nice place to live. And if Jeni wants to go back to school, I understand that Florida's finest university is less than an hour north of you.
