So ya I was tagging along following some friends who were going to drive me to "The Vault" a recreation center and we stop by their locker first, so Tyler askes Kevin what the combo is and Kevin anwsers.

I kept a mental note but then Tyler asked "hy Blayne what do the numbers 32, 50, 52 and 3 all have in common"?

I think for a second and ask for him to repeat them.

Tyler goes "I dont have to"

"Why?" rather surprised.

"Because you already forgot the locker combination"

[Eek!]

They're all even numbers. :nods:

Except for, like, the one that isn't.

Pfft. Three is an honorary even number. Everybody knows that.

Is that like pi being prime?

Blayne, I know it's completely trivial, but I am curious where were you that had lockers?

Except you remembered them well enough to post them...

Since when? Why do I keep not getting these memos???

What I assumed is that they asked him to repeat back some different numbers, which weren't part of the combination.

Thats how I interpreted it, quite the astute friend.

I typically when around friends make a mental note NOT to remember their private numbers. I look away when people are entering their pin numbers.

Mmmm...yeah. That was right after we started putting the coversheets on all the TPS reports before they went out. I'll go ahead and make sure you get another copy of that memo mmmmm...okay?

Email works best. I'm not big on the whole paper deal.

Three is obviously just experimental error. What, you're going to trust Blayne to write down the correct numbers?

As a bank employee, I would never deliberately look at another person's PIN. But I did once guess a friend's PIN after he mentioned it was the date of a historical event.

How many hundreds of events do we learn about in school? I got his in one try. It was a little eerie.

So the moral of the story is don't give your friends hints as to what your number is. They just might guess.

<blink> That's actually a very good point.

I couldn't get into my computer one day because I'd forgotten the password. My friend came in and got it in one try. It was disturbing.

Is it 1776?

I would have guessed 1492.

Well, there are only three dates that the need to be memorized to learn American history, and the average American history student only learns them through some clever rhymes.

In fourteen hundred ninety-two Columbus sailed the ocean blue

In sixteen hundred and two-zero the pilgrims landed and dressed real queer-o

In seventeen hundred seventy-six the declaration of independence was singed-ixed

I figured it had to be one of them.

I don't think I've ever known what year the pilgrims landed. And I really don't think that's one of the three most important dates in American history. Not even in the top ten.

Posted by Orincoro (Member # 8854) on :

Yeah, did you make that one up just now? "queer-o"

And what about "singed-ixed." That makes less than no sense.

Blayne, I think that is a really clever security device.

I love the Seinfeld scene where Kramer tries to guess George's PIN.

Posted by AvidReader (Member # 6007) on :

It actually wasn't an American event. And let's face it, if you guess enough numbers, you're bound to get it eventually.

With four numbers 0-9 that can repeat you have 10,000 combinations. So I suppose it could be a while. But then I'm still trying to figure out how hackers get around the "three wrong tries and you're locked out" part of the security system.

It was supposed to make little to no sense, and I believe I succeeded. For future reference, I’m generally never being serious, and it should be obvious if I am.

Posted by Amanecer (Member # 4068) on :

Was it 1066? I had one world history teacher that insisted if we remembered only one date, it should be that one.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

So did I! [Big Grin]

Posted by AvidReader (Member # 6007) on :

That's it, Amanecer. Now as long as I never tell you which friend, we should be ok. [Big Grin]

Posted by Amanecer (Member # 4068) on :

Hee hee! Yay! [Big Grin]

Hint: my PIN is the same as my favorite soup.

Posted by Blayne Bradley (Member # 8565) on :

Ckicken Noodle soup is a pin number?

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

I'm not telling you what my favorite soup is. That is too big of a hint.

Mine's the price of a cheese pizza and a large soda back where I used to work, Panucci's Pizza.
