It's days like this that make me think that yes, one day we might have a semi-normal life again. B.K. (before kids), Hubby and I went to the movies almost every week. We love going to the movies. If there wasn't anything out we were dying to see we'd settle for something that might be halfway kind of good, maybe. I am not proud of the fact that I saw Cabin Boy in the theatre but there, now it's out in the open. I did see it and I paid to do so! Now you can well imagine that having a little one may place certain restraints on your social life. We've always like going out to eat. We still do, just to places with playgrounds and serving predominately chicken nuggets. But going to the movies has been difficult. What was once a torrent of flickering images in our lives has dwindled to a drip. Since we could only go when Nana could watch Leslie, our choices were made with much more scrutiny! We have to weigh our decisions carefully! The categories we label pending movies are Must Be Seen in Theatre, as in Pirates of the Carribean, Wait for DVD, as in March of the Penguins or Probably Never see it because the Other Doesn't want to, as in Shopgirl or Doom. It has been a difficult and trying time, but it looks as if a new era is upon us! Today we took our 2 year old to the movies! Yes! And it wasn't the first time, just the first time since she could move on her own and express herself clearly. Her first movie was Batman Begins. We took her to the Mom's Reels where they dim the lights and have the sound turned down and everyone else has a baby so it doesn't matter if your s cries because about 4 others are at any given time. But today was the big time! A real live Sunday matinee! With regular people! We felt it was worth the risk. She loved Wallace and Grommit so we thought she might liked the new Flushed Away by the same folks. It looks very similar. She like popcorn so we thought that might help as well. But we also know she is possessed so it could go either way and at the start it looked bad. Todd took Leslie in to get a seat while I got the refreshments. He said everyone stared at him evilly because right away Leslie started throwing a tantrum calling for me. He was sure we'd have to leave but as soon as I got there she calmed right down and started in on the popcorn. We sat where she could roam a little before the movie started and once the lights went down she sat in her seat. When the loud music began she got a little pensive and climbed in my lap but she was perfect for the first half of the movie! She loved it! The second half she fell asleep! I almost wept right there! Thank God we like cartoons and little kid movies as much as anything else because now we can see them all! I know that all our movie experiences with Leslie might not be this spectacular but right now I am just content with this amazing first and hoping this holiday season has lots of animation!
