Anyone of a prayerful bent, could you please pray for my great-uncle. He's 85 and left to go hunting yesterday morning. They've found his car but not him. This is the second night he's been out in the woods alone, and he didn't bring more than a single lunch with him.

I'm really worried and I love him very much. His health hasn't been good for the past few years.

Please, anyone who can, pray for him, for the search teams, and for my family.

Oh no! I gather he'd gone hunting alone?

My father is 84, and although he's not in any condition to be tromping through the woods or whatnot, I know how worried I'd be if he'd somehow gone off by himself and gotten lost.

I really, really hope that they find him safe and healthy, and I'm keeping you all in my thoughts.

Oh, Ali! Here's hoping he's safe and warm somewhere, and that they find him soon. I'll be thinking of him and you, for whatever that's worth.

[Frown] Any news yet?

Oh my goodness, you're definitely in our prayers.

Was he a frequent hunter? If so, then take comfort in the fact that he probably has good wilderness skills. I sure hope they find him safe and sound.

Oh no! I hope he's found, safe and wondering what all the fuss is about.

Eaquae, I'm so sorry -- that's awfully scary. I'll join those praying for your uncle, family, and the search teams. I must say, I admire the guy going out hunting at that age! Where is he--somewhere very cold?

ETA: just saw thread title--yup, I guess it's cold, sorry for the dumb question

I talked to my mum tonight, and no news yet. This will be the third night, and he'll be out in it, barring a mircale, because the search has been called off on account of the dark.

Thanks, everyone...

Here's hoping for good news, and soon.

Mid-day, and nothing yet.

I feel like such a wreck, and I'm trying to get my schoolwork done for tomorrow, but I'm worried and I'm losing my ability to concentrate. I just want to sit by my phone and crochet to keep my fingers busy while I pray or cry or worry.

If they don't find him today, I have to start preparing myself for a funeral, because him being out for five days and nights is not a hopeful thing at all, and I'd probably be disappointed if I hoped.

That's my uncle.

The news article is optimistic, but the news from my other last night was somewhat grimmer. What keeps my hopes going is that Uncle John is a very smart man, and he's been hunting for a very long time, so he's not likely to do anything particularly stupid (except forget his cellphone).

Well... night four. It's still above freezing out there, and that brings me hope.

Sorry if I'm spamming the board, it just helps a little to get it out.

Definitely not spamming - please keep us updated!

*crossing fingers and hoping really hard*

*much hugs, and prayers*

I hope he is found quickly. Better yet, I hope he returns of his own free will, and his own strength, on his own two feet, unharmed. That would be ideal.

They found him today.

He wasn't far from his car, so my mum says she's not sure how they missed him. She called before even she had any details, but said because of the location we're hoping it was a stroke or heart attack and not exposure or hunger. It's not much to hope for, but I'd rather something quick that would have happened anyway to something avoidable and drawn-out.

Thanks for your prayers and hugs, everyone. It really means a lot to me.

I'm told it was a heart attack, and it happened very early Thursday.

He died quickly and without a huge amount of pain and fear. It was something that likely would have happened even if he'd just stayed home. And he died doing something he loved. I can't really ask for much more.

The funeral's Friday, so I'm going to try to get classes off to go. I'd like to be able to grieve with the rest of my family.

Thanks again, everyone.

I'm so sorry, Ali. I've been thinking of you and your family and him all weekend. It's good in a way that he didn't have to suffer for a long time, but it's hard nonetheless, I know.

*hugs*

You have my email if I can do or say anything to help, or listen, or anything else.
