I was very surprised when I arrived home to find a weird looking plastic bag on my porch. It's been very rainy here today so the maillady left my box in a bag. I was overwhelmed when I opened the box to find a tea set from KetchupQueen and the KetchupPrincess! I am very touched that the Princess picked it out herself. It is beautiful and I know my little girl will enjoy it with me. Please be sure to tell the KetchupPrincess we will have a tea party soon in her honor! Thank you very much!

I got my hatrack gift from ketchupqueen today! [Big Grin] She gave me a tour of L.A., complete with gifts from her favorite spots in the city and a letter explaining them. You're right - it did bring me some sunshine on a terribly cold day. Thank you!! [Smile]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Wait... how were both your gifts from ketchupqueen?

Posted by cmc (Member # 9549) on :

I think one was from ketchupqueen and one was from the princess?

Posted by Astaril (Member # 7440) on :

I think dawn's was from KetchupPrincess, technically.

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Ah! I see. Thanks. [Smile]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yup, and she picked it all out herself, I just wrote the letter.

Jeni, I'm so glad you liked it! I feel awful that one piece dropped out of the package, it is following shortly.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Oh, and Jeni, you have to tell me what's in the grab bag! I'm dying to know.

(I realize that next time I'm at Olvera Street I could spring for one of my own. But what would be the fun in that? [Wink] )

I got my gifts! Euripides got me:

2 postcards bearing interesting photos by Ken Duncan, who Euripides describes as "one of my favorite photographers....[whose]evocative panoramas are almost national icons"

1 CD by an Australian inde/rock band (who I'd never heard of, but whose work I can't wait to get to know), Youth Group. The album is Casino Twilight Dogs. I'm listening to it as I type this.

and

Peter Carey's novel Oscar and Lucinda, which I'm vaguely aware of having heard of, but which I've never read. Euripides says that it's arguably the most famous work of one of Australia's finest authors, so I'm pretty excited to read it.

[Smile] [Smile] [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Thanks Euripides! Consider your patriotic duty well on its way to being discharged. I love the photos, am liking the CD quite a bit (and I almost never like music a whole lot the first time I listen to it, so this is a very positive thing), and am looking forward to the book.

I got my package from Ketch Prince Consort in the mail today.

He sent me a hand painted fan, a little satin bag, a scroll with a humorous map of LA on it and an incredible folding hat.

The hat is a really funky folding sun hat which is definitely coming to Hawaii with me. I'm very fair skinned so a good sun hat is essential and its so hard to find one that is easy to pack.

Thanks Jeff!

By the way, the card was really clever (it was a mocked up post from Euripides dated December 25th, 2006, for those of you who are neither me nor Euripides). Did you photoshop that or what?

Phar Lap, such a sad sad story.

Yep. I started a new topic, previewed it, took a screen shot and photoshopped the date etc.

For those who are unaware as to what breyerchic is on about, Phar Lap was a famous race horse.

Btw, whoever my gifter is, if you sent it to my house, I won't get for another week and a half or so... so don't panic if I don't post! I'm still at school. [Smile]

To my giftee (though of course, you have no idea who you are yet): Hopefully my gift is going out today. I finally compiled all the pieces that are going in it, and I don't have choir today, so I'm going to try and make a run to the post office before my diction class!

While posts in this thread (and the others) are great, because of the way gmail works, and the way I'm sending messages after mailing date, it would be much better if you emailed saying when you send your gift.

Sweet!!! Came home to a box outside my door... My heart lept!!! Got inside - barely put down the laptop bag - grabbed the scissors... AND OPENED MY HATRACK GIFT!!

KarlEd hooked me up with a KILLER new journal for poetry... It's really, really awesome. It's got an old school look to it - the cover's got a design where the material looks sort of like the inside of a mussel's shell + the back is a smaller version that also mirrors itself... It has a bookmark build in AND has a pocket in the back to shove in 'extras' (which i'm constantly doing with journals). NICE JOB KarlEd!!

I am also now the proud owner of a bag of chocolate covered potato chips from the Utz factory... Wonder how long they're going to last... : )

Thanks again!!

edit: oh! i also got some fantastic pages from the dining & entertainment section of the hanover area merchandiser... ; )

I love Utz, though I'm not sure if the flavor I love is available in PA (the crab chip).

LOL! Yeah, I spared no expense on the packaging. [Big Grin]

Let me know what you think of the Chocolate Covered Potato Chips. Almost everyone I've given them to has gone "YUCK!" when they hear about them, and then somewhere between "Oh, not half bad," and "WOW! Those are GREAT!" after tasting them. I can say, for myself, that they are definitely a unique flavor experience. [Wink]

Glad you liked the journal. I had a few to choose from, but that one looked the nicest and seemed best for poetry. You'll have to post in the Original Poetry thread after you write in your journal.

breyerchic, yes, the crab chips are available in PA, and they're one of my favorites too.

I got my present, and it is really special, too! At least I'm pretty sure I got my Hatrack present. Whoever sent it forgot to include a card, or their name or anything, the big dope!

But, if you sent me a mother and child sculpture, thank you so much! It is very nice, and will have a place of honor on my mantelpiece.

I'm in the same boat at Tante. I received my gift today, but without any indication of who sent it. It is the graphic novel Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki (whom I adore), which looks freaking awesome.

So sorry, dude! I intended on sending you a card, but last week was deficit week. Sorry about that.I hope you like it and that it's not too beat up. I had to get it sent directly so it wouldn't be late. It's one of my favourite things ever, so I hope you like it!
I told the person to put a note in it too, but they did not.

Also I used to go to school in Canton

Synesthesia, thank you. I love most of the Miyazaki movies, and have never read his graphic novels. Now remember when I said how it's going to help me decompress inbetween my finals? Well I'm already on page 222 out of 260! I've done a lot of decompressing during the past day and a half. I don't think it'll even make it to my first final. [Big Grin]

Yay! i'm glad you like it.
There are 3 more in the series though, it's one of the best ever. I am glad you like Miyazaki

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

Thanks, Leonide! I thought it was from you. It is really very lovely and special, and, after spending a day on the dining room table for the family to admire while they ate, it is now perched on the mantelpiece in the parlor, for all to admire.

And the mother portrayed in the sculpture has on a long flowing dress -- just like I wear!

Posted by The White Whale (Member # 6594) on :

Synesthesia, this gift has turned into a curse! There are more in the series?! I don't get to know what happens to Nausicaä or the Ohmu until later! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

[Embarrassed] <--- Not the right expression.

There is no proper Graemlin to match what I am feeling right now. Think of Kirk screaming "Khaaaaaan!" [Big Grin]

But really, thanks Synesthesia. It was great.

I just got home from work, and sitting outside my door was a box containing...absolutely gorgeous handspun yarn!! AND a set of very pretty stitch markers!!

Thank you, Stray, I very much appreciate both. [Kiss]

The vast majority of what I knit are gifts for other people, but I think I'll have to make something for myself out of your yarn. (I'm still halfway tempted to keep AJ's yarn for myself, too, even though I chose it specifically for my mom. [Blushing] )

Thanks again!

Got mine! Raia sent a delightful package of Israeli chocolates along with recipes for babaghanoush and hummus, and a jar of Tehina, which I've since learned is the "middle eastern ketchup" :-)

Btw, was the t-shirt in the package too? There was a t-shirt that I meant to send you, but you didn't mention it, so I don't know if I forgot to include it... if so, I have to frantically search around my room, and mail it separately! [Razz]

Posted by Oobie Binoobie (Member # 8059) on :

The T-Shirt was there! Sorry, I haven't mislaid it or anything.

Sadly, though, even though I gave my size and everything, it doesn't fit me...apparently the Israeli "XXL" is not the same as the Wal-Mart XXL... However, I have five children and a wife, so we will not fail to put it to use.

And, as a matter of fact, if it's cuisine from any region of Asia or Africa at all, it fascinates me. So, yeah, I love it!

I got my gift today!

I drove up to my house after work and i saw the package and was so excited because i knew what it was right away!

My secret giftee was Niki! (Valentine014) and my package was just lovely. I was so tickled by everything she gave me -- fairy stickers, a notepad, and some stationary ( i do love the faerie folk) and the box was filled with little stars/moon/sun glittery-bobs and i don't know if she knew that, but i adore sun/moon things as well. And she also sent a fun book which is one i've been meaning to buy for awhile, coincidentally. It's called "All About Me" and you fill them out with all this information about your life -- it's one of those scenarios where i've seen the book for years in Barnes and Noble and the like, but just never got around to actually BUYING the darn thing. Now i have it!

Niki, thank you so much. I will be sure to put all of them to good use, and it made me really happy to see how much effort you put into even just wrapping and packaging the gift! Thank you so much [Smile] [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Shan gave me...

...in response to my comment about wanting to be more up to date with US politics, a wide variety of periodicals of varying political affiliation,

a strangely appropriate wall calendar of featuring political posters (including one of my favourites, Rosie the Riveter), the cover of which informs me that I am "on Aboriginal Land",

and 3 pewter figurines of soldiers to add to my now-not-so-secret collection.

I did have some inside info. My first thought was to get you Origin of PCs, from OOTS. Then I was thinking that if you had that, I'd get you the Hedge Knight graphic novel.

I got my gift the other day, but due to a broken computer, haven't had an oppurtunity to post.

JT was my secret Santa. He actually got me something rather usefull. Currently I have a cubicle job. He got me a Firefly tree ornament, which doubles as a thing you can put on a metal pin for display. So going in my cubicle. LOVE it.

And in addition, he sent me a Sampler CD of him singing, which, soon as I have a moment, I shall listen to (dead computer and no cd playing in car. Go figure.) [Smile]

JT, thanks so much. Very cool gifts all around.

Mine arrived at my home either today or yesterday. I, however, have not yet arrived at my home. So I still don't know who sent it or what is in it. Please don't tell me, either. I'm looking forward to the surprise. I just don't want my person to think it got lost or anything.

Don't think your gifts suck, just remember teh person you sent it to might not be online as much as you are. But they do have to post here, or I'll freak out at them. And really tommorow is when the freakouts start (I just took my last final).

glad you liked the dragon Val [Smile]

I got mine from Imogen!!!! She sent me Australian goodies: chocolate covered coffee beans, herb salt, and a bar made with dried fruit, cocoa and other things that smells of Christmas (really it does!). I had to try everything immediately, including the salt! [Big Grin]

Thanks Imogen!!!

I'm glad it got there, Kama.

The salt is pretty cool, because it's got Australian native herbs and stuff in it. As does the panforte, I think.

The chocolate covered coffee beans - well, not so Australian, but so yummy. [Smile]

(Oh, and I'm sorry it wasn't all wrapped and pretty - I was in a rush, and forgot to take stickytape and scissors to the stores (I had to pick up one last item and then send it). I did have wrapping paper, and I tried creative folding with no cutting or sticking, but it failed miserably. So I just sent them.)

I got my present today! Silly me, I forgot that I needed to check my mailbox regularly, so it's possible that it's been sitting there for a few days.

I am the very happy recipient of a beautiful crocheted scarf. The black and white will go perfectly with my new black coat!

Also, I squealed with joy when I saw a Serenity comic book! I've always wanted to try one. (It is a comic, right? I don't know, I don't know the difference between comics and graphic novels and I would hate to make a faux pas)

Thank you Kara (blacwolve)! This was perfect [Smile]

I'm so glad you liked it.

I think graphic novels are compilations of comic books. So I use them interchangeably. I had to ask a ton of people's advice on what to get you. I'm glad it was what you wanted. [Smile]

I suspected you may have one or both of the potential items...
This, by the way, is why people often consider me enormously hard to shop for, even though my interests are pretty clear-cut and obvious; I have enough disposable income that when I want something small and silly, I buy it. This means that when traditional gift-giving times roll around, I already OWN all the small, silly things someone might think to give me, leaving them often only small, silly things I didn't think to buy and/or huge, expensive things they can't afford to give me any more than I could afford to buy myself.

I actually suspect that this is why so many Dads get ties, too. [Smile]

My present arrived today - sent by Narnia.

She sent homemade toffee, a CD she burned which includes her mom and her students singing, and a learn-to-crochet kit. I haven't had a chance to listen to the CD yet because I'm at work. And - please understand that I think this is hilarious - I bought that same kit about a week ago! This means that I can let Cayla have the kit I bought (she already stole it from me) and keep this one for myself without worrying about "where's that darn size G crochet hook?"

I am so very pleased with my gifts. Thanks Narnia!

My office goons just delivered my secret santa gift from Boris! He took my "what I want" information to heart and sent me a book on feng shui to assist in my apartment-arranging.

Oddly appropriate, as I'm actually familiar with feng shui, but haven't had a reference book in several years since my friend borrowed my last one and then, uh, mysteriously vanished with it.

Thanks, Boris! ^_^

Oh, and Carrie, how do I hang the peppers? Do I put them on a hook or a nail or what? We're in an apartment with cheap construction so stuff tends to fall off and I don't want to invest too much time in hanging it as I'm still hoping to move in the next year... Maybe I need to invest in some of those "as seen on tv" "Hercules hooks."

I wish the mail system would hurry up with the package I sent. It should have been there by today at the latest. I really want to know if my person liked their gift. I'm hoping so, but I've been kind of second guessing myself ever since I bought it.

festivus: It's in the car, but I bought mine at Hobby Lobby. It's got a booklet, which states that it has instructions for left-handed people (Cayla is a lefty), five or six regular-sized crochet hooks, an extra long crochet hook, two plastic needles, a knitting/crochet stitch gauge ... That's all from memory, so I think there are a couple more things but can't remember exactly what they are.

I looked at the Hobby Lobby site and it's possible that this kit is slightly different from the one that I bought. But it looks like it's got most of the same stuff. Anyway, I'll mark mine and Cayla can keep what she has. ;-)

I got my gift from Icarus today [Smile] .

It is an assortment of candy from all over the world. There is some from China, Japan, France, Italy, England, Canada, Germany, Mexico, and Norway.

They all look very yummy, and while the one made from Goat milk is perhaps a little scary, I am still looking forward to trying it [Big Grin] .

Right when I opened it, I had a delightful chocolate covered wafer from France, and a little bite of milky chocolate from Italy. I'm thinking after dinner I will try something fruity. Perhaps the Juy-C grape candies from Japan.

I'd like to say that these candies will last me a while, but I'd be surprised if they lasted me much more than a week. I have a bit of a sweet tooth.

Thanks Joe!

PS: I am not Canadian, though I am from upstate NY, which has the same climate [Wink] . I've never heard of Canadian Smarties, but look forward to trying them.

PPS: I don't dislike dark chocolate, and have been known to enjoy it in small quantities, so no worries. So if someone gave me, say, a big dark chocolate bunny, I'd still probably eat the ears.

I got my gift today too! (Yes, I am finally home!)

KELLY! Thank you so much! You scored so well! Your gift covers almost all the bases of Raia's crazy obsessions! [Smile]

I don't know if you did research or not, but being a music major and total broadway geek, the CDs are perfect... she gave me a piano tribute to Enya, as well as the original broadway recording of the stage play The Lion King! Lovely!

ALSO, this one I'm even more impressed with (you MUST have researched)... I have a crazy fixation on pigs. So the piggy bank was a great choice! Especially since now I have one indigenous to your area... it even says so! [Smile]

And the scarf is SO WARM AND FUZZY! And I love that shade of pink... I took it out of the box, and my mom was in the room, and her first reaction was "oh, how beautiful!" I have difficulty wearing scarves, sometimes, because they itch my neck, but I have had this one on since I opened the package half an hour ago, and all I feel is warm and cozy! [Big Grin] So thank you, thank you! [Kiss]

Btw, my favorite part was opening the box and finding infinite University Bookstore bags in it... [Big Grin] Somehow it seemed like foreshadowing that this would be an awesome gift, haha!

Tante I just opened your gift today. I didn't get home until a couple of days ago, and then I kept forgetting to ask my parents where it was. Today I was determined to find it and I did.

She sent me two scarves in my favorite colors. One summer weight one in very fuzzy yarn and another very thick warm one. Which is absolutely perfect concidering I spend most of the year in southern Georgia and the winter in Indiana. Also included are three chocolate Christmas trees in white, milk, and dark chocolate from a local chocolate factory. Very, very tasty!

Thank you so much for everything! I will try to post some pictures, but I need to find my camera first.

KPC, I don't know if you'll be able to hang them up this way, but if you can get some sort of hook on either the wall or ceiling by your kitchen, that would achieve the appropriate effect. Bamboo goes in a small vase with stones at the bottom, the end buried an inch or two in the stones. Then cover the stones with water. It's very pretty in a clear glass vase; my boyfriend keeps some, green with blue, marble-looking stones at the bottom.

Thanks, pH! The box is really lovely. Now I just have to figure out which of my many treasures are worthy of it.

I also like the ornament a lot. I actually have a sentimental attachment to Hello Kitty stuff, because I was born in Japan, and have a lot of Hello kitty stuff from when I was young.

And I especially like the card. Where did you find it? It's definitly going on my wall when I get back to school!

It was mine! It was from Hank, who my mommy says has obviously dealt with toddlers before because there were a lot of things and each one was individually wrapped. [Big Grin] I had sooo much fun tearing off all the paper!

I got a book with pretty pretty pictures of the Shenandoah Valley (is that what the song Mama sings to me is about?), and a Care Bears coloring book (I LOVE to color) and a toothbrush that looks like a crayon that I wanted to open RIGHT NOW but Mama said I have to wait until it's time for a new toothbrush and a "magic towel" washcloth Mama says I can have in my bath tonight-- she remembers loving those when she was my age, and a CD we listened to in the car that's a demo from one of Hank's friends. I liked it, I calmed right down listening to it, it was kind of folky with lots of guitar, which I love, and Mama says that most of the songs are good enough that if she happens to have it in the car next time she's at a party with Grandpa's music industry friends she might be tempted to pass it along to someone who has an in with a folk label, but I told Mama it's MINE and she can't give it away without asking me.

I love that all. Thank you!

I got mine!! From eisenoxyde. I got a super cute little stuffed burro with a stick of dynamite in his mouth. He's Blaster the Burro, mascot of Eisen's school. Very cool! Also included was a gorgeous book of photographs of Colorado.

Love it! thanks, Eisen!!

I got my gift today from Layla/Dark as Night!

On a Sunday!

I sat right down and opened it up. Yay! I'm not the patient kind.

The bits were all wrapped individually in ski magazine glossies - what a great idea! I opened the wooden spoon painted with a traditional Russian pattern first, followed by a pair of candles, which I left at home so I can't tell you the scents, but I know I like them. And then the candle holders - they are so pretty! They suit me perfectly.

Then I opened the sushi mat and seaweed. I've always avoided sushi in the past because I don't like fish. But now I will go to the Japanese grocery in the market and ask them about vegetarian sushi. Whole new vistas of culinary delight to explore! (And one I probably never would have on my own.)

The calendar of scenic places in America is lovely, with all sorts of cool photos. I am going to hang it on my wall above my desk, a spot which has been crying out for some decoration.

There was ginger green tea cushioning the candle holders. I am going to try a mug of it tonight. I adore green tea. I love ginger. There's nothing I can possibly see as less than amazing about combining them. (Holy awkward sentence, Batman!)

Layla also burned me a pair of her favourite Celtic music CDs. I have neither of them, amazing! I can't wait to put them on, especially the Christmas one.

Last but very definitely not least was a journal from India. Handmade by Tibetan children, with ricepaper and an assortment of pretty flowers embedded in each page. It is gorgeous. I have no idea what I am going to do with it, except save it for a special occasion.

Thank you so much, Layla! You should have seen the glee on my face when I saw the box, and as I unwrapped each gift. Thank you for a wonderful start to the season!

I got my gift a day or two ago, but forgot to post....sorry!

White Wale was my Santa, and I got some really cool stuff. He bought some imported things from a little local shop near him, and they were imported from Africa. I got a really cool hand-painted box, and inside was a metal scorpion that was made from a tin can and hand-painted. He also took some wood chips from where he lived and mailed them so I would get a little taste of home. [Smile]

I am a bad person, though....I didn't send my own gift until yesterday. [Frown]

Glad the bread was good. [Smile]

Sorry about the CD. I'd make you another and send it out, but due to some horrible timing and a crazy storm, my computer is fried and I'm leaving the state to visit my parents for Christmas and new years. If my hard drive is still intact I'll be able to send out a new copy in mid-january.

EDIT - This is Juxtapose, I borrowed my roommate's computer and forgot to log her out.

I got my gift from Eaquae Legit this weekend, but had no internet access. I got a very nice asian-style teapot and cups (one of which, unfortunately, succumbed to the vagaries of international mail brutality), and a little bag of lavender. The bag was very potent and the whole package smelled wonderful. There was a nice letter from EL that included a recipe for chicken cooked with the lavendar, which I am going to try over the holidays. I haven't had anything cooked with lavendar since my trip to France in 2002, so I'm eager to give this a try.

Thanks Eaquae!

Current USPS Priority Mail times is 7-10 business days for the continental U.S.

UPS' current ship times for Canada orders (from Seattle!) are even more horrifying: they posted 10 business days, but the parcel I shipped on the 3rd of this month is not scheduled to deliver until the 29TH. Thanks for ruining Christmas, punks.

Well - I'm just hoping my person hasn't had access to a computer OR is waiting for a specific day to open...

I leave Thursday until 1-4 + probably won't be on-line much because I'll be too busy gallivanting in Europe. Hopefully they like it!!! Although - even if they hate it, I'd still like to know...

Larisse!! I got my package a few days ago but my mom forgot to tell me that it had arrived! Thank you so much for the wonderful gifts!

I got an iTunes giftcard (very useful!), a blue sketchbook, an interesting photograph, and a pretty ring that she made herself. She also made an awesome card that said "Have a Merry Hatrack Christmas" on it. It was so original and it made my whole day!

I'm glad I was in the gift exchange this year... it was fun putting together a gift for Tate, and I loved the package Larisse put together for me! Thanks again. [Big Grin]

You know Karl, I suspected that that was Chris. The post was much more in his style than in yours.

Blackblade, I'm glad to hear that it arrived. I hope you like it. While I like the design on it quite a bit, I realize that not everyone actually likes shirts with things on them.

Actually, while that design is one of my favorites of the artist's, it's not the one that I walked into the store intending to buy for you. I wanted to get you either this one or this one, but the artist hadn't printed either of those designs onto a dark colored shirts in that size (how is the size, by the way?).

Here is the design that was on the shirt, for anyone that's interested.

If you can't view the images but want to see the shirts, here is the artist's myspace page. The design I got him is the one labeled "birds tree", and the ones I had in mind for him initially were "birds, wire, post" and "birds on wire".

I got mine today!!! From Ashley/sarcasticmuppet. The BYU vs. U of Oregon football game had just started on TV and somebody said, "there's a package for you". As my eyes left the screen and my hands excitedly opened the box, I discovered a bit of traditional BYU cheer! It couldn't have been more appropriate for the moment. [Smile]

Ashley sent me a bag of cinnamon bears, a Y favorite, and a beautiful BYU mug. I absolutely LOVE it!!! There will be hot chocolate in it tonight! What a great present. I'm a lonely Ute in a line of Cougars at my house, so I anticipate much teasing and laughter when they see me drinking out of my BYU mug! [ROFL] Thank you Ashley!

*dances*

I got it, I got it, I got it, I got it!

A mail person (not our usual one) handed me a box with a very familiar address! I only know one person in that town, and sure enough my Hatrack Santa is Rayann (Boon)! (We've sent her things and visited her before, that's how I know her address.) I ripped it open as soon as I found some scissors (I am NOT a patient person!)

There is a very cozy shawl/wrap/thingy (I'm not sure the exact word, but it's warm and soft and wearable!) I put it on straight away because 52 degrees is too cold for me even with my flannel jammies and fleece Snuggle Sack on. And there was a "family gift" inside it, too, and I should have waited and put that under the tree or at least let Emma open it with me but I didn't because I'm bad. It's a book that has stories geared toward 3- to 5-year-olds that teach about God's love. It is so perfect! Now that Emma is almost three and Jeff is actually home more often I have been wanting to have more regular Family Home Evenings but was kind of at a loss as to how to start. But these stories will be wonderful for our FHE lessons! Thank you sooooo much! [Kiss]

[Smile] I'm sooo glad it made it before Christmas. I 'bout killed my husband when he told me he hadn't sent it the week before like I asked him to.

I chose that wrap because it's a neutral color so will go with just about everything, and has no size, so you can wear it even while carrying a baby (in your arms or otherwise). [Big Grin] It's also machine washable (cold water, drip dry).

And I just knew you'd love that book! I got a copy at a yard sale several years ago. I bought it without even opening it just because of the title and it was only $.10. It's since become one of our staples for quick bedtime stories. We love it, even though we skip a few stories (it's written by a LDS and has a few stories from the BOM in it). So when I spotted a copy online while I was searching for something else, it screamed "BUY ME FOR THE KETCHUPS!" So I did. [Smile]

Love you dear. [Kiss]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Wow, I didn't even notice it was an LDS book (although it did say "Heavenly Father" instead of "God", that's not uncommon.) Even perfecter!

And I am enjoying the wrap keeping my chestal area warm right now while I have my Snuggle Sack and jammies undone to nurse the baby. [Cool]

I received Allegra's gift! It is a book by David Sedaris (Naked) whom I've heard of and am interested in reading, some hazelnut-filled chocolate balls, and a CD of bass soloists, some of whom she knows personally! Did you record these yourself? What a fantastic collection! The music is a little outside my familiarity, and that's cool because it will expose me to stuff I don't know about. I think books in general are awesome gifts, and I'm very much looking forward to reading this one! I also really enjoyed reading the letter that came with the gifts--there's something just so pleasing about reasing somebody's hand-written words! [Smile]

I am happy you enjoyed it. I was getting nervous that it wouldn't get there.

I did not record the cd myself, I compiled it using my iTunes. The music by my teacher was a gift and it has never been released. It took me forever to get it down to just what is on there. When I first made the playlist it was 4x the maximum length. I almost just made 4 cds, but I decided one was enough for a first try. Let me know what you think.

This wrap is becoming my most-used Hatrack gift ever! It is so warm and snuggly in the cold mornings, I wore it to church yesterday, it's handy for covering up when my top is a little too small for nursing discreetly in, I threw it on for a late-night bathroom trip...

I'd just like to say here to the as yet to be recipient of my gift that I am very sad that you seem to have not received my gift on time [Frown]

I sent it with plenty of time to get there but apparently not as you have not received it. Would it be prudent to declare who I was supposed to give a gift to so I can coordinate something else in this thread? Or should I sit on my hands and continue to sweat?

Hope you all have a very merry Christmas anyway, especially my giftee.

Two years ago, my giftee's gift was sent back as undelivered (if I remember correctly, she was out of town and told the office to hold it, but they didn't), and I received it back sometime in March I think. I sent it back out, and she got it in, um, April? It's all a little hazy, but something like that.

You wouldn't be the first to have your gift arrive late. [Smile]

Opened my gift from maui babe! (Brother's family politely refrained from asking "Who is this skanky Internet woman that you're getting a present from??" [Wink] )

Cool stuff =
-- Wow Wee Maui chocolate bar (with kona coffee). Gone in 10 seconds. Mmmm.
-- Lokiki jelly "made with aloha." Also mmmmm. Targeted for tomorrow's breakfast.
-- Maui calendar, pretty pictures of Maui. Someday I'll make it there. Meanwhile, I can envy maui babe...
-- and an Ikaika warrior helmet, which is a small reproduction (head about the size of a walnut) of a feathered headdress with a long straw beard/tentacles. Thinking of asking if my niece has any Barbie dolls we can outfit with this; would this actually give Barbie relevance, or be extremely inappropriate?

Thanks maui babe! Chocolate, food, local flavor, and quirky. Mmmmm. [Smile]

Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah to all!

Opened my gift from anti_maven and family yesterday. Loved it!

He sent me a documentary from Spain about the Basque separatist movement and ETA - which is more perfect that I think he realized, since I spent undergrad studying terrorism and international relations. The Basques are one of the most interesting examples since the conflict has been going on for *so* long. They've also evolved in recent years and some circles are beginning to wonder if they haven't given up terrorism in favor of something different, possibly providing a model for dealing with other conflicts.

At least that's what the American pundits say. We'll see if it lines up with the documentary, which I'm sure is a much more authoritative source [Smile]

Anyway, wonderful choice, I'm really excited to watch it.

Also, he included a list of Sci Fi/Fantasy recommendations (I had put "new SF" on my list), which will come in really handy when I finish Empire and need to move on to a new book!

Thanks, anti_maven! [Big Grin]

Altáriël of Dorthonion... I got your gift. Thank you.

The beaded necklace is beautiful. I love the colors of burgandy and pink. I am trying to figure out if the pink beads are shell or glass.

The postcard was very nice, too. The last time I was in Southern California I was just a little girl.

I'm glad you love your wrap so much KQ! I was thinking of making me one, too. Now I'm definitely going to. [Smile]

I opened my box from Shan and Nate yesterday. Wow! The whole box smelled wonderful from the scented trivet. That'll definitely get some use!

The crocheted hats for the kids are so cute, and they (and the cat) loved the tops...but the big hit was the stone tic-tac-toe game! They made me leave it on the end table and they keep coming back to it.

Thank you so much! They're already talking about what they're going to write back to Nate! [Big Grin]

So*, I arrived home from my holiday weekend to find my gift waiting for me...another Festivus!

Plaid got me a giant tuber. At first I was thinking it was a regular potato and thus an Idaho joke, but I read his letter, and it was a sweet potato grown in his garden. 5+ pounds...he said he had some 10 pounders, but I can just imagine the postage on those. [Razz]

*breaks out knife and puts some water on to boil*

Also got some seeds for some giant "Mortgage Lifter, Radiator Charlie's" tomatoes. And the story behind the name. Very cool. My dad lives in upstate NY, and he has a garden, so I may make him grow them for me and just reap the benefits. [Smile]

And for my reading and listening pleasure, a YA novel about NYC, The Pushcart War, which I'm sure Gabe and I will both enjoy, and a CD of local Virginia duo Morwenna Lasko and Jay Pun. Haven't gotten around to listening just yet, but judging by the acoustic guitar and violin being wielded by the musicians on the cover, I think I'll enjoy it. [Smile]

Thanks for everything, Ken! Merry Billtmas!

Gabe with the sweet potato, for scale.

Sweet potato with last year's Hatrack Festivus gift.

Just Gabe.

He's a precious baby! And I thought the sweet potato looked awesome in last year's gift-- but it's a tough call between the potato and Frisco. Can we see the baby in the tassels? I bet he'd win. [Razz]

I thought about putting Gabe in the tassels for pictures...but didn't feel like dealing with anyone at the Department of Child Services so soon after a busy Christmas.

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted, but my comp. has been down and I haven't been able to get online much at all.

I did receive my gift on time and I am very happy with it. I really like the Marvel T-Shirt and REALLY love the Phoenix cut-out you sent along with it.

I greatly do appoligize for the long wait for my post about my gift. I am really happy with it and you don't have to sweat it anymore. [Smile]

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! [Party]

Phoenix's delay is mostly my fault, BlackBlade. His PC has been down for over a week and we took mine down to troubleshoot the parts for his, so all we've had is the laptop, which I've been hogging.

His gift came just before Christmas and he really couldn't have been more pleased. Thanks for making my sweetie smile! [Smile]

But of course! Glad Phoenix liked it, I was originally going to send just the shirt then I was thinking, "Oh hey his handle IS phoenix...hmmm..."

Glad I timed it so well, hope your computer issues get resolved.

I want to apologize to the person who was supposed to get a gift from me. I transposed the zip with another package (another secret santa from another message board on another site) and it was returned today. Neither of you got your gifts and are probably a little sad. Some of it was homemade goodies so I will remake them tonight and send it back out tomorrow. Again, I am so sorry!

Actually I employed the services of a wonderful woman I met on my mission to Taiwan, who I knew did such cuttings. It never occured to me to try and find a pattern and try to do it myself. When it comes to getting homemade gifts from me you would have to settle on some sort of ditty on the piano or guitar.

I made sure to let Sister Liao know Chris liked it [Smile]

I got my package this afternoon from Chris Bridges. It was three much-loved Winnie The Pooh books.

Thank you so much, Chris! You couldn't have chosen a better gift. I go into libraries and used bookstores sometimes, just to find old books and think of the people who've read them before me! I do hope Molly and Ann don't miss them too much, whoever and wherever they are. I am certain I shall grow to love them just as much as they obviously have been loved. (I have a great capacity for falling in love with books!)

And as a bonus, I have been meaning to read them for years, ever since I read a few of the poems a long time ago, but hadn't gotten around to finding them yet! So I will start them on the plane ride home.

Speaking of which, I ought to go pack.

Thank you, Chris! Hope you had happy holidays yourself!

I've been out of town and just got back to find my gift from Mrs. M.

She included a recent picture of little Aerin and a March of Dimes awareness keychain. There were three gifts, very tastefully wrapped with silver ornaments on two of them... they're beautiful and will surely hang on my tree for years to come.

The gifts were a Burt's Bees Footcare Kit (I'm wondering now if I've ever said anything here about taking care of my feet... living on Maui, I seldom wear shoes, never socks and am particular about my pedicure. It's the perfect gift for me!), a calendar with sketchings of Richmond landmarks (Mrs. M attached a hand-written note on each month with little details about each landmark - I enjoyed reading about them, and will leave them there to enjoy all year), and the book Dragonology. I glanced through it a bit last night, but I know I'm going to love it.

Mahalo plenty Mrs. M! [Kiss] I've been having a bit of a rough time, and your gift cheered me and touched me more than I can say.

No, the jelly was made with lilikoi, or passion fruit, which grows very profusely here. The vine in my yard died last fall (I think my landlord killed it to be honest), but I have two co-workers who have large vines who provided the fruit. Li hing is completely different and was not in your jelly.

Got my Christmas parcel today!

Caysedai sent a fantastic parcel, which my poor wife picked up from the post office this morning and had to wait all day for me to get home to see what was inside.

Firstly a flying catapault monkey that shreaks when it hits the floor. Totally bizarre and hugely funny. It freaked the Toddling Tornado, but as Caysedai says this is going to be a huge success in the office. I'm already formulating a list of folk to be target with the Flying Monkey of Doom!! [Evil]

Next was a journal and a tin. I didn't get this until I read the card and realised that it was possibly the best present I have received this year. The tin contains a series of 'journal prompts', which must have taken forever to prepare . Each one is used to write an entry in the journal to creat something that "will eventually be a gift" for the Toddling Tornado. A fantastic idea. To my mind this is a real gift, something that I would never have thought of myself, but that I will spend all year enjoying (and it will be a nice thing to pass on to TT so that he can see his Daddy wasn't just a grumpy old stick-in-the-mud...)

Thanks Caysedai!

To wrap the gifts Caysedai used the local newspaper from the town in Iowa where she lives. This formed a nice extra as Mavens All spend a happy session reading the sporst results and small ads from. It's amazing the view you get of a place from the stuff on sale in the local rag!

Thanks again for a really generous gift, and a very happy new year to Jatraqueros all!

anti_maven: I'm glad you liked everything. I've been really interested in journaling and family history and wishing I had stuff from my grandparents' lives - they're all dead now. (not meaning to sound morbid or anything)

For those who are interested, pictures of the monkey are on the Web site, and you can even watch a video and actually hear the sound the monkey makes. [Wink] I gave one to my 11-year-old daughter who is really into monkeys and penguins, and she loves it. She actually read Curious George to it. Out loud. The monkeys have invaded the newsroom of the newspaper where I work and that's how I found out about them. It seemed like the perfect "geek" gift since you described yourself that way. [Wink]

Thank you Dan Raven! He got me one of the funniest movies ever made, Young Frankenstein, and one of his short stories, Alice Stone (very, very, eerie story, Dan. You have a lot of talent).

Oh, and two words: bubble wrap [Big Grin]

The combination of these gifts should make for a very fun night.

By the way, sorry for not getting your package on time [Frown]

I got back today and got the gifts - and I love them! I desperately and sincerely apologize for not being around to respond in time, but travel plans and the UPS do not always, unfortunately, coincide. I will, however, bring the mini-text to class the first day instead of the proscribed text (screw Homer anyway!) and the picture(s) are gorgeous!!

I cannot thank you enough, nor can I apologize enough for not being around when they came! Much love, belated though it may be!
