I can't believe they sullied the beautifully tragic ending of the first one by simply rewinding back into the past and in effect stating without actually saying it, "Ha! It didn't really happen!"

It's in complete disregard to the fact that the characters had grown up at the beginning of the first one.

Though, on a better note, they did release a special edition Robin Hood DVD.

Seriously, these are direct to video offerings . . . who the hell cares? They're about as meaningful and canonical as TV series based on movies. Imagine they didn't exist and move on with your lives. I am the biggest fan of original feature-length Disney movies here, and you don't see me getting upset. I simply don't buy them.
The reason they exist at all is that they're cheap to make and little kids eat them up. But it's not like Disney's coming out with fewer "real" movies because they're making this crap. These are made by a different branch of the company. Frankly, if crap like this makes it possibly for the company to have the money to invest in the next great animated feature, then I'm all for it.
Star Wars had several animated series over the years targeted at kids (no, I'm not talking about the Clone Wars, I'm talking about the Ewok Adventure cartoons) and they're crap, but nobody gets worked up over it. Mostly, we just ignore it.

Bu..but I like the Ewok Adventures! Heck, I didn't know they were in the Star Wars film until I saw it. They even had their own two films which I liked as well!

I love the original Disney movies, and I am a self-titled "Disney Freak". More so than most people I know. Why is Disney not doing more Pixar stuff? simple.....the head animator for Pixar is now at Walt Disney World. He is the Imagineer in charge of The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Many of the other Pixar people are also at Disney as Imagineers now.
I know this because I have met them while working at EPCOT. During the "rehab" of the Seas, Pixar's people were on site creating a very unique new attraction. If you have seen "Turtle Talk with Crush", then you will understand that the new ride at the Seas (original Sea Base Alpha and it's hydrolators, is long gone and Clam mobiles now transport guests) that uses the same technology as the Crush show. It is very cool. I have a very good friend on the opening team of that attraction, and got to see things back stage during construction (had to wear a hard hat and everything!). So, that is just one reason that DIsney isn't putting out more Pixar flix right now.
I don't really like the DTV sequels/ prequels either, and as far as I'm concerned the "Little Fish Girl" and "Beast Woman" were overrated the first time around. (there is a real reason that I abhor those 2 movies, and if you had to endure what I did, you'd hate them too!) But, I just don't waste my money on them. I have a collection of all the other "real" movies they have made over the years. (with the exception of Song of the South as it will not be released in the US...ever... due to it being so far from politically correct it could incite riots.) Happy movie watching!

btw, the new Living Seas sucks. Sorry, but it does. I'm grateful I got to go to the preview and not wait in line. When tourists have to wait in line for an hour or longer and discover they waited all that time to watch animated fish cavort on aquarium windows, there may just be rioting at Epcot.

We work with Disney as a licensee and when they bought Pixar, the Pixar guys pretty much took over. One of the first things they did was to axe a bunch of direct to DVD sequels, some of which were very far along in the production phase. So I don’t think there will be many more of these.

I look at the DVD sequels as feature length TV shows. Disney has turned many of their movies into TV shows and it doesn't exactly follow the story line of the movie. Also many studios have done the same thing. Look at "The Skulls", do you think the studios thought they would really do as well as the original? Disney (Pixar) still has the best, wholesome movies. I feel the most comfortable putting my kids infront of them. They don't use gross out humor and they don't put double entendre in to make the parents chuckle.

And the old one didn't? Besides the nice seafood restaurant and the cool elevator that goes nowhere, was it any more than a big fish tank?

The only problem with axing direct-to-DVD sequels is you can't hear them scream.
Hmm. Did I say that out loud?...
I recognize the wisdom of "just ignore them", Ic, but they keep sticking ads for them in the front of my DVDs. And then they do stupid things like interjecting sub-par "special" animation sequences into "deluxe" versions of re-releases, as with The Lion King. The whole attitude of movies as licenses which can and should be milked from every marketing angle possible infuriates me. And in the case of some of the more recent animated films, that mindset was clearly dominant in the *features* as well.
Phrases like "It's fun for the whole family, featuring all of your favorite friends" make me want to hurt someone.
So... bring on the Pixar leadership. Cheers to people who don't think the halmark of quality is getting audiences shuffled in and out in 88 minutes flat. Sharpen that axe. (Or dull it. Just use it. )
