The sad thing is that it's very true for me [Frown]
I can't concentrate sometimes regardless of my efforts to do so.

People sometimes try to concentrate on something and then they find themsleves doing or discussing something completey different. It is a problem, I think.

50 Second Attention Span

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

Honestly, I think internet surfing decreases attention span. Anytime you get the slightest bit bored on a website you can just click and change in a second. A website that takes longer than 10 seconds to load? In Firefox, just hold down ctrl and open a new tab and do something else while you're waiting for something to load. You never have to slow down on the internet, you can go whatever speed you feel like. Which is bad training for life because in the real world you cabn;t go whatever speed you want and sometimes you have to be patient and focus on one thing.

And there you have it. Scientific proof that I'm right. Now I'm bored. I'm going to get some food.

You can open tabs on IE as well.

Most people are still using IE6, I'd imagine.

I have a horrible time keeping focused on something, especially homework and papers. I have such a hard time getting myself to sit down and do something when I know there are a hundred things I would rather be doing. If only there was some way to fix that. But unfortunately, right now I've got nothing.

Ah. I'm using IE7, it works wonders for me.

50 seconds?!

Geez, I'm gonna have to start opening more applications and windows to catch up to the standard! I'm WAY behind!

50second attention span <-> 52seconds

I have a serious problem with it. I just sort of zone out very easily. Just last night we were getting an estimate for new flooring, and after the saleswoman left I thought of a few questions. Well as my wife said, apparantly everyone of my questions was answered in her presentation.

If class participation had been a large part of my grade throughout school, I never would have graduated.

But see, the thing about "class participation" is that you really only need to listen to about sixty seconds of the lecture. Then ask something related but off-the-wall enough that you can be fairly certain no one else has asked it and that the teacher hasn't covered it.

Kind of like how I can write lit papers on books of which I've only read a few pages, if need be.

I take a medication for my short attention span. It's done wonders.

Any side effects? Who would one talk to doctors or pshychiatrists?

A lepidopterist. Some of those butterflies are really nasty tasting.

Q: How many kids with ADD does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: Wanna go ride bikes?

Not any significant side effects. If you're truly wondering if it would help you, talking to your primary care physician would be a good first step. He or she could guide you from there.

I seriously have a ridiculously short attention span. I don't know how I function in school at all.
