I have this ancient windows 98 computer that, well, has been with me for now 6 years, and for which I have little love. That it's still working nicely is the best compliment I can give it. (I love you computer! Please don't stop working in retaliation! [Razz] )

Yet a week ago I had to reset the registry to a version from...2002. Yeah. Don't ask why. I did, though, and now my computer doesn't have sound.

No sound at all. How can I get it back? Ideas?

Thanks [Smile]

back up your data and reinstall everything?

Have you installed any sound-related drivers since 2002?

Did you use any special software to back up your registry for you?

I don't know, Euripides. I don't think I have. And no to the second part as well.

Is there some sort of way I could just download one file and have everything work again? [Razz]

It's been a while since I used a 98. How exactly did you back up your registry? Does 98 have a standard registry editor?

I wouldn't know how to repair it, unless you know what drivers you're missing, or whether it's a driver problem at all. Speakers don't usually come with drivers, but you could check the manufacturer's website for you audio equipment. If you know who made your sound card, that would definitely be worth looking into.

Reformatting would no doubt fix it, but I take it you'd like to avoid that if possible.

The thing is that the whole "sound" option on the computer seems to be disabled. This is probably related to the sound driver in the hardware, not the speakers?

I guess I could try to get updated drivers for the sound card. Either way, I should be getting a laptop soon, and I pray that that will have sound!

Thanks [Smile]
