I have off tomorrow, and Greensboro is only 4 hours away....you think I should? Or is it crazy to drive for 4 hours, get a book signed, and then come home?

4 hours is beyond what I would do. I think 2 would be my limit, and even then I would probably look for something else to do in the area.

If you can meet up with other hatrackers it would be cool I think [Smile] . And honestly his book signings are a lot of fun - it's more than just go, stand in line, get book signed, go home. As long as you follow the protocol he's down with taking pictures and he'll generally hang out until all the books are signed (even if it gets kinda late). Plus he does a nice talk with some Q&A before the signing.

I realize it's probably REALLY late notice, but I too think that would be cool. Anyone interested in doing anything before or afterward, shoot me an email. I think it's attached to my profile. I'm going to check on that.

I'd defintely do it if it was only 4 hours away. I can never get him to come that close, so I would count it as bonus!

The only time I've ever been to a signing I drove 4 hours each way (this was back in 1993 or 94 at the Barnes & Nobles in Orem, UT). I would do it again in a heartbeat, but I can't drive 4 hours anywhere except in circles.

Here's the thing. You want to meet him. You do. It's a good time. But NC is probably a place he'll sign in again (although that's pure speculation).

So even if you don't drive 4 hours to see him today, plan on driving 4 hours to see him at some point.

I'd make it tommorrow, though. What are the chances you'll be off again next time?

Not that good. My schedule isn't the standard 7-day work-week, and there's always the possibility of me either being somewhere else or having a completely different job.

I'd definately go in that case. Leave early, make a day of it.

If you can, buy a book at the store to be signed. It's a nice commemoration of the event and it encourages bookstores to keep doing this sort of thing.

True enough... I just had this vision of my well-worn, notes in the side margins, bookmarks on pages (i know - sacrilege to some, sorry) books getting signed... ; )

However - not a bad idea at all...
