Chris Sanders, probably best known for creating Lilo & Stitch was recently dismissed from American Dog, a 2008 animated feature that was highly anticipated by fans of his previous work.
While definite facts are not yet disclosed from either side of the story, it seems that his dismissal came from John Lasseter.
I was looking forward to this film. I'm a bit shaken that the Pixar philosophy of letting the directors have control just may be showing cracks so soon after the Disney merger.

Yes, I've read the "this is a definite sign Lasseter wants Disney to move back to doing 2-D!" blog entries and articles...but that doesn't address the core issue here...this was Chris Sander's project, his baby, his vision...and he's been forced off of it.
"Big pictures" are fine and good, but Pixar built a reputation on how they gave their creative people the story-telling choices.
If CGI was the media Sanders wanted to tell his story, I feel he should have been given that chance.
I think he's proven he has the ability to make his stuff -work- on the big screen.
*shrug*
Jim Hill may be right about it being luck of the draw...but I don't think that justifies booting Sanders from his own project completely.
