Now, if you had been on woot at midnight the other night like I was (or was it tanga? Whatever, I was on both) you could have had one for $460-ish (I admit, I wasn't paying that much attention to the price...)

Is there even anything worth getting for it yet? Personally, if I got anything it would be the Wii, since that new zelda game looks fun, or maybe the 360 for gears of war and the eventual halo 3.

Speaking of next generation consoles, I was a little disappointed that the Wii doesn't seem to have any interactive demo units at any of the stores I've been to. I've been wanting to see firsthand how well the controls work out, but they only have videos playing.

OMG! I'm sorry, Blayne, would you believe I thought today was a Friday? Didn't set my alarm clock yesterday, didn't get up until noon, missed our game. Lost track of the days. Sorry. [Frown]

ricree,

The controllers work "great" for some games and merely "okay" for others, and "chalk it up to learning curve" for a few.

The tennis game that comes with the Wii -- felt great! The boxing game, also good. The baseball -- not so good for hitting, but pitching was great. Some of the other people there had a great time with hitting in baseball. I did not. And I can pretty much hit a baseball, but I couldn't hit anything with that silly controller. So...probably it was a learning curve thing.

Now...we also played SuperMonkeyball. That has a bunch of minigames. Some of those, you wanted to break the controller and shove the sharpened ends into whoever designed the thing. Others, OMG, it was totally intuitive and instantly fun.

We also played some sort of monsters-destroy-cities game (I forgot the name). I'd never played it on an old-style controller, but it seemed okay on the Wii controllers. People who were good at the game in the old Nintendo environment had no problem scoring tons of points on the Wii version.

Overall, I'd give the controllers at least a B+. There were some aspects of the controllers that were truly amazing. And they were much, much, more accurate than I assumed they would be. I expected a lot of frustration because, well...I'm pretty much game impaired to begin with. This thing, I actually enjoyed! A lot!

NOTE: As should be obvious, this is the review of a NON-GAMER. I suspect gamers either love or hate the Wii controllers.

There are playable demos, but at most locations you have to leave either a credit card or a license behind the counter to check out the controller.....people were walking off with them.

Is it $1000 good?
He says he has $1000 limit on his credit card, not that it costs 1000. Since he's finding it at a store, I'm guessing he'd be paying retail price for it.

not enough to warrant picking up the system in the first place. Maybe if they released Final Fantasy VII:II with the PS3. Its predecessor basically MADE the playstation.

You seem to be immune to all the negative hype the PS3 has been getting these days. I wonder how many loyal Playstation gamers like Blayne have been priced out by the extremely high price.

its isnt "immune" just taking relativity into account, many of the critisisms of the PS3 are simila rif not the same as the ones for the PS2.

I don't think I'd ever fork over more than $200 for anything game related - and I play games a lot and love them. I guess I am just cheap.

And in college with a hella ton of loans.

Although my friend got a Wii and the Zelda game was actually a lot of fun to play on that when I tried.
