Hiya, Blayne, I'm waiting for my family to get up so we can open the stockings (shhh, don't tell anyone, but I know everything that's in them, having filled them at 2;30 last night) and presents before going over to my dad's for more presents and brunch.

Hi Everyone! My family woke me up at the crack of dawn for breakfast and presents. I'm on Hatrack waiting for some cds to load into iTunes.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

My family will be embarking on my town in about two hours, but I've had a quiet and relaxing Christmas morning.

I'm here. It's raining and dismal out, and my parents' house has, like, no lights. And even if it did, my brother insists on having them all turned off while he watches Pirates 2 with the volume turned up REALLY REALLY HIGH. [Grumble]

I feel a migraine coming on..

Here I am!

Not Chanukah now, that's not for, like, almost another year!

So, Blayne, what are YOU doing here?

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

Oh, and while there are so many variations, it is almost impossible to misspell "Chanukah", you, Blayne, managed to do it anyway.

You have a rare gift for misspelling!

Too true.

I'm not only on Hatrack, it's a regular workday for me (although I came in late, because I had a meeting at my kids' school).

Work day (actually night, since I'm a night worker now) for me, too. And the kid had school today. I'm, like, in a whole different time zone and calendar from the rest of the world.

Here, but not for long. I woke up at 2 pm. I'll be going to a friend's house in a bit.

Not a work day for me, just a regular Christmas day. Kinda subdued--I'm living w/ my mom, my dad passed away last summer, and we had our family Christmas on Saturday night when my brother was in town, and then had guests over for dinner yesterday. We were supposed to go have Christmas dinner w/ a family from church today, but I was never enthused about it; I was just going along w/ it to keep Mom happy. I only know the lady who invited us, and none of the rest of her family, so I thought it would be really awkward, introvert that I am. Then I woke up feeling kinda sick, and as it turned out Mom wasn't feeling much like socializing, so we cancelled. I felt bad about it, but it turns out that half the family we were going to be with is violently ill, so probably just as well.

We just had our little Christmas dinner--reheated leftovers from a week of too much cooking! Tasted just fine. And now I'm going to go watch A Christmas Story!

There are 27 different ways to spell "hanukkah."

But no, as Tante said, it's been over as of Friday.

Actually, I don't think there are more than a dozen. [Wink]

And Chanukah wasn't over until Saturday night.

No, there are definitely 27. We looked it up once. And it was over Friday night! I promise! [Confused]

(edit: You're right. It was over Saturday night. I meant the last candle was on Friday. [Smile] )

Huh. I figured this out with someone once, and I thought we maxed out at about 12.

Let's see:

  1. Hanuka
  2. Hanukah
  3. Hannuka
  4. Hannukah
  5. Hanukka
  6. Hanukkah
  7. Hannukka
  8. Hannukkah
  9. Chanuka
  10. Chanukah
  11. Channuka
  12. Channukah
  13. Chanukka
  14. Chanukkah
  15. Channukka
  16. Channukkah
That would be 16, but I don't actually think #7, 8, 15, or 16 are really legit.

I'm browsing Hatrack right now as Christmas winds to a close. My brother's out, my sister's in her room, and everyone else is asleep. The internet + television seems to me to be the best way to avoid boredom at such a time.
