I am making a CD, the idea is `What would the soundtrack be for a Stranger in a Strange Land movie`.

So far I have Mad World, Walk Like a Man, and Aquarius (from Hair). I am also considering Help by The Beatles. Any suggestions for songs would be much appreciated.

Talking Heads, "Once in a Lifetime"
Leonard Cohen, "First we Take Manhatten"

Oh, can you also explain where it would fit?

Mars from Gustav Holst's The Planets Suite.

Duh! It's even mentioned in the book.

Great suggestion [Smile] Thanks. As well, Once in a Lifetime looks good. Great suggestions so far.

Oh, I'm glad this was bumped. Let me go look at my playlist for ideas, and edit this post when I have the results.

Does it have to have lyrics? Wait, I've never read that book.

Going off of OSC's milieu of his MICE quotient:
Fly Me To the Moon

Lyrics are preferable, but if it is good enough, then I suppose not. Mars seemed appropriate, even though it didn't have lyrics, for example.

Mars is both a brilliant suggestion and a brilliant song. The whole suite is fantastic.

Thread time.

Yes, it is a brilliant suggestion and suite. I am on my way to the ten songs thanks to you guys [Smile] Any more help would be much appreciated.

I am obligated to bump this thread. I also thought of Revolution by the beatles.

How does this get knocked back so quickly?

Please, for the love of god, I need two more songs!

Is this like, homework or something? If it isn't, then I apologize for mentioning it, but from the first post this really sounded more like an assignment than something you were just doing for fun, and it seems even more so now that you've mentioned needing a specific number.

I am the Walrus, obviously. ("I am the eggman" vs. "I am but an egg")

And David Bowie's Space Oddity.

I'd use "De La Vie A La Mort" by Zap Mama. It's a very cheerful, happy song about death.

I felt the same thing, Blue. The first post didn't sound it, but each subsequent post just screams "It's due tomorrow and I didn't read the book!"

Heh, yes, it is a homework assignment, but I did read the book. Four times, in fact. The assignment is to choose 10 songs that would fit a movie version of your favorite book, then write a page on each song explaining why. I am just having trouble thinking of songs. I probably should have said this at the beginning.

Yeah. I'm glad I didn't weigh in now.

JOn, you're not supposed to have other people help you do your homework. Well, thinking up the songs sounds like less than half the work, but still.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

Yeah, you should have said something at the beginning.
