So, how'd you do last term and what are you taking this term?
Last term - all A's. Major shockage. I knew I'd probably have A's in three of the four classes, but the last one - linguistics - I had a solid B going into the final and I know I didn't ace the final. He says he doesn't scale but he HAD to or there's no way I made an A. At any rate, I'm not complaining!
This semester I'm taking three English classes and one education class. (For those that don't know I'm an English/Secondary Education double major)
Education as a Profession - 2 hours
American Lit Survey - 3 hours
Beowulf in Context - 3 hours
Shakespeare - 3 hours
I'm most excited about the Beowulf class, though it has a pretty long reading list, it's all stuff I'm excited to be studying. Class starts tomorrow!

I did okay last semester. An A and three B's. Unfortunately the A was in my only non-major course. This semester I'm taking:
Architecture Studio (4 hrs) Architecture History II (3 hrs) Physics (4hrs) Health (2 hrs) Study Abroad prep course (1hr)
I'm an architecture major, by the way, and the study abroad course is for a history of art and architecture program I'm going to be doing in Italy and Greece over the summer.

I refuse to base my college experience on my first sememster here- freak illnesses, dropping classes because I couldn't keep up with failing health...
Regardless, I had 3 A's and a B+, so I'm fairly pleased.
I'm currently in the process of switching majors from Music Education to Biology and Forestry/Fisheries/Wildlife, so my schedule isn't set in stone. As of now I'm taking:
English H110C.01- a required course for almost every major this university offers. I got lucky- the professor decided the theme this semester is going to be "Music, lyrics, and how they affect culture." SO I get to write lyrics interpretations for a grade. This makes me happy.
Music 220- Music Technology. Learning how to use programs like Sibelius and Finale.
Music 225- Aural Training 2. Sight singing and dictation.
Music 265.01- Group Piano 5(I tested out of the first three levels and did the fourth last quarter). Incredibly easy class.
Music 204.04- Collegiate Winds. Band for really good musicians, but not necessarily Music majors.
That's it for now, but all except English are subject to change.

Last term was awful, but I think I managed to get A- in my philosophy and my criticism courses, and I know I got an A in my Old English class. (That might not sound too bad, except an A- is the lowest passing grade you can get in my program.) I'm not sure about the philosophy class, though. Fingers crossed!
Next term is looking WAY better, with Vernacular Text Editing, Codicology, and Medieval Society on my slate. So here's hoping.

For my Fall semester, I made all As and one Incomplete. Its a one-hour course and the last one from my science writing requirements so I'll just be happy to pass once that grade comes in.
My Spring schedule for my LAST semester (woot!) is:
Intro to Ecology II - 3 hours Senior Colloquium II - 2 hours Thesis: Humanities and Social Thought - 3 hours Seminar in Philosophy: Gnosticism - 4 hours Contemporary Analytical Philosophy - 4
I could audit Gnosticism to give myself more free time but its with my favorite professor and I'm sure to get an A (i'm a philosophy minor) so might as well let it boost my GPA. I'm sitting at a 3.4 right now and I want to get it up to a 3.5 by graduation. I had a rough sophomore semster and I was never sure I could save it.

This semester may change, but right now I'm taking:
Earlier Middle Ages Colonial America to 1763 French II Art History II Documentary Film
Right now my schedule works out beautifully, so I'm loathe to change it, but my plan to minor in Art History is looking further and further from what I want. I'm going to look into double majoring in either Creative Writing or Clinical Psychology (History being the one I could conceivably finish this upcoming semester should the courses work). So yeah, we'll see.

I got an A and a B last semester. I am very pleased, because I was afraid of getting a C in the B class.
I'm taking Grammar, because I'm expecting there not to be any papers to write, and French 2002, because I took the same class one year too early when I was an undergrad, and it's a requirement for my masters.
I also have to do independent studying for the oral exam--that's what I'm most worried about. I don't work independently very well.
Also, my classes start on Monday, and I have one EVERY day of the week--and it's the first time that's happened in grad. school. Good news is this is my last semester! Woo! (If I pass, that is.)

My Beowulf class was cancelled. The professor has cancer.
I'm very sad for him, but a little aggravated that I only know this now, after registration is closed. Yes, I can still add through next Wednesday, but because this professor cancelled three courses, people have been scrambling and there are few classes open. I have emails in to two professors asking (no, begging!) them to find room and let me into one of their classes.
If I don't get that taken care of, I'll have only 9 hours this semester which will really throw me off, I need to average 4 classes a semester so that would mean doing five one semester to make up for this.

Last semester was my worst one ever, but I still got above a 3.0. One B-, one B+, 2 B's and an S in an S/U class (meaning I passed).
This semester I'm taking

I'm excited because it's my last semester and even though I have to take 16 credits to graduate, I can take whatever I want because all but one of my requirements are filled. My classes don't even start until Jan. 22 so I've got awhile to go.

I love how you start these threads every semester, Belle. It's so much fun. Although I must say, all you people with straight A's make me a little embarrassed to post my grades. Oh well, what can you do? I got three A's an A- a B+ a B and a C- (3.26 overall). Yep, I nearly didn't pass one of my classes (C- is the lowest you can get and pass in a major class.)
As for this semester, it is my last semester of classes before student teaching, and I have high hopes for getting much better grades this time around! My classes are:
Music 260R - Voice lessons Music 276 - Techniques for teaching Music Music 321R - University Orchestra (yes, I'm playing the violin for one more semester) Music 374 - Percussion workshop for choral majors Music 376B - Choral Practicum Music 482 - Choral Arranging ScEd 375 - Pre-student teaching
Looks like a lot of classes, but it only adds up to 15 credits. That's what I get for being a music major.

That's for a total of 26 units. I'm thinking about adding on a magazine journalism class (just to see what it would have been like to pursue communications instead of philosophy and economics), but the "max" units is 19, and I'm already well over that. We'll see. I might audit it.

I got two As and an A- last semester, which was actually a little better than I'd expected. For this semester, if I get some of my M.A. credit carried over like I'm hoping to, it should be my last semester of course work. I'm taking a course on the history of Italian, one on Milton, and an undetermined third one (probably on Modernism). I'm also teaching an Italian class again this semester.
Oh, and I'm working on a Ph.D. in Literature. Forgot to say that.

It's kind of nice to be in a program that doesn't do marks. You're either cut or not cut. Last term I was not cut (clearly) So, now I'm taking

They can cram a lot into a schedule when you're expected to be on campus 6 days a week for 12ish hours/day.

I got four As and one B. However Spanish (the only class I've ever gotten a B in) is over forever!!! I'm very excited. Also, all of my friends tell me that employers don't like perfect 4.0s. I don't know how my friends would have any idea, but it makes me feel better, so I believe them.
I'm taking Intro to Jewish Studies 3 hours (this is actually an upper level course, it's the only undergraduate course in Jewish Studies at Purdue) Intro to Agronomy 3 hours (two hours in class and a 2 hour lab, I swear no one around here can add) Probability and Statistics 3 hours Religions of the East 3 hours
I'm also doing a research project through my internship (with the C-SPAN Archives) that will bring me up to 15 credit hours.
I'm really excited about this semester. After this semester I'll be going into my senior year with very few requirements (agronomy is the only course that doesn't fulfill anything) which will be very nice.

You think your school can't add? My studio, which counts for 4 credit hours, meets for 12 hours a week, and so far has required at least 30-40 hours a week of additional work just to keep up. The only bright side is that one of my professors last year said that it makes it much easier once you get into the real world. Since you're already used to putting 40-50 hours a week into studio, the real world is the same amount of time but without other classes getting in the way.

That's my schedule for this semester. And I have to say, I took my first class today, Astronomy, and I was blown away. I've been undecided on what minor to take, as I HAVE to have a teaching minor to get certified upon graduation, and now I'm leaning away from economics and towards physics (biology is still in the back of my mind).

This semester I'm still one course short. I was enrolled in this course called "US History Now- and Then" which is basically about the roots of how the US is now. It sounds really interesting but I don't have the prerequisite (a survey US history course).
I e-mailed the professor to find out if I could get in via permission... I mean, I recently took a lot of courses in which I had no background at all. You gotta do what you gotta do.
Otherwise, I'm excited about my Speculative Fiction class (of course).

Well, I found a prof that would let me into his British lit survey which is held at the same time as the Beowulf class which was cancelled.
I didn't really want to take another survey this semester, since I'm already taking an American survey, but I have to do both for my major, so at least it's filling a requirement.

I came out of last semester alive, and with A's and A-'s, so I'm thrilled - it was the hardest semester I've had by far (including the one where out of classes for four weeks due to illness) and filled with very important classes for grad school.
Next semester: Econ 490: Honors Senior Thesis (independent study) Econ 490B: Advanced Microeconomics II (independent study) Math 442: Probability & Statistics II Phil 490: Philosophy of Economics (independent study) Phil 216: History of Modern Philosophy

Contemporary Analytic Philosophy is SOO not the best way to start off your first day of class. My brain hurts. I've never been a big fan of modern theory so this is going to suck. Today he gave us more than half an hour to read and comprehend four pages for discussion. blech. Atleast the class only requires three short papers which is great cause I hate long papers.
I also found out I'm doing my documentary film project on "Born Into Brothels" which is exciting.
Tomorrow is Ecology at 9:30am. None of my classes started before noon last semester so that's early! Doesn't help that I'm retaking this class because I failed it last time (I didn't find out until after that passing in our college is a C or above. Stupid D!)
Three weeks for Winter Break is just too short especially when you're trying to cram in work, time with the family, time with the boyfriend, and holiday shopping. Atleast I have a four-day weekend coming up because I have Fridays off. And Mardi Gras is, thankfully, just around the corner.
