Apparently Clearwire is a company with some new technology that'll make internet connections 10 times faster, not much setup needed, is wireless, and yet is safe from thieving neighbors. Plus, it'll cost less than the average RoadRunner bill.

I think it's new in the way it's set up. Something about 5 interlocking beams or something like that.

I'm greatly anticipating the completion of Clearwire service in my area, since our cable company apparently wishes to stay in the dark ages and still isn't offering high speed internet. :eyeroll: Clearwire has several towers up, but my house is at the edge of their range and I couldn't get good enough signal to feel confident in its reliability. The dealer let me borrow a modem to test out signal, which I thought was pretty stellar. Supposedly they're putting another tower up about 2 miles from my house by the end of February.
Even so, the best speed they can offer still isn't as good as Comcast. I wish I could get Comcast. I miss Comcast.

i had clearwire when i was up in Jacksonville and it worked really good for me. the only times i had trouble was when we got the hurricanes coming through every other month.

I hope it's good, because my cable internet is kind of patchy. Of course, at the same time I get from 3 to 0 bars of reception on my cell, depending on where I'm standing in my house, so I'm not counting on it.

I believe overall, the US is ranked lower than many other countries for it's broadband capabilities and prices. Not sure where I read this, but here's something from a quick Google

Erm... fixed wireless isn't new - I've been doing it since 2001, and that's not a very long time, actually. Clearwire just happens to have enough money to deploy anywhere they want though, which is cool. They've got licensed spectrum and oodles of cash, so it should be a reasonable solution if you're in their coverage area. Good luck!
