Well, mostly. I was accepted to OSU today, and while it is not exactly prestigious I was wondering if any other members of the Hatrack community were going to, or are attending OSU.

I live in Corvallis, but I'm going to ASU. OSU has a lovely campus and some great programs (particularly in agriculture and forestry). Corvallis is a nice place to live, although not as bustling as some other college towns.
What major are you considering?

I am going in as engineering, probably as biotech. I want to work with ONAMI, the nanotech institute, as soon as I can.
I don't mind the lack of bustle, I am not a very party hearty guy or anything like that, so it is alright with me.

Oh, nice! That should be a lot of fun. I had a job one summer in the nascent bioengineering department (which I believe got reabsorbed into chemical engineering). I know some people involved in ONAMI--one of the guys who goes to my church is heavily involved in developing the nano/micro engineering industry in Oregon.

I live in Forest Grove, about 40 miles west of portland. Near Hillsboro.

One for here is, what is Corvallis like?

Well, it's got about 50,000 people, so it's not all that large (um, compared to other places, anyway...ASU has 50,000 students). There's a lot of technology companies in the area--HP, CH2M Hill, smaller biotech companies. Between all the high-tech stuff and the university, Corvallis is pretty well-educated. It's got one of the best public libraries for a city its size in the country. There are all sorts of cultural events going on all the time--plays, small musical events, etc. In the summer, we have DaVinci Days, which you may or may not already be familiar with (huge science and art festival--the highlight is a kinetic sculpture race).
Corvallis is relatively bike- and pedestrian-friendly. You always have to be careful, but it's generally pretty safe. There's a lot of trails and such in and around the city, so if you like the outdoors, you'll love Corvallis. The traffic is pretty light most of the time, so driving isn't too tough either.
Um, what else...the town is generally considered to be pretty safe. Not a whole lot of crime, and a lot of what does happen is theft.

Outdoors is excellent.
Do you know if there are any good rivers for kayaking around there? or skiing, beside Hoodoo. I am fairly acquainted with everything down to about Salem and east and west of that, but don't really know about anything else in Oregon.
The town I am from has about the same number of people as OSU so it will be a big town to me probably. I did live right outside D.C. for a while though.
