No oscars topic yet? Weird. So, I'm extremely happy about The Departed's 3 wins, especially for Scorsese. I'm surprised Pan's Labyrinth didn't win best foreign language film, and I'm pleasantly surprised that Melissa Etheridge won for her song from An Inconvenient Truth. Anybody else have comments?

Beside the fact that Forest Whitaker wasn't the main character in "The Last King of Scotland", his role as a brutal lying dictator seems hardly complicated enough to win an Oscar. Both DiCaprio in "Blood Diamond" and Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness" have way more interesting roles, and they played their roles perfectly. I haven't seen the other two movies, so I won't say who deserved to win the Oscar. [Smile]

I am too. In order to figure it out, I'm going to see The Lives of Others later this week. Has anyone seen it?

Yes, I saw it on Friday. It was a very, very good movie. I think Pan's Labyrinth was better, but this was close. The win wasn't a travesty. The Lives of Others is astonishing - acting is great, story is tight, ending is startling and good.
