Transforumed, but I figure people here are much more likely to post.

1) Register at SingShot.

2) Get a computer mic.

3) Record something!

4) Post a link! I'll try to keep tabs on submissions and organize them up top.

Recorded:

Okay, if no one dares to post first, I'll do it.

Warning: I'm singing extremely quietly so as to not disturb my flatmate in the next room.

Oh, man, Emma is going to LOVE this. They have all her favorites. [Big Grin]

Celaeno, I liked it! [Smile]

I will see if I can find my mic.

Hey, that was damned good Celaeno. You should rerecord it later, louder. You have a clean tone.

Dangit! The cat chewed through the cord on my computer mic! [Mad]

Thanks, guys!

Now you should both post something, so I'm not up here all alone.

Well, I just ordered a new mic (same kind I had before, I liked it) from Amazon. I had a $10 gift certificate so it only cost me $1.50. But it won't be here for a little while.

Dumb cat.

Unless it was the toddler pulling on it that broke it, in which case I apologize to the cat.

I did register, though, and am practicing. As soon as I get my new mic I'll post. [Smile]

(I think it was the cat, considering it's broken in TWO PLACES.)

Also, their "world/reggae" section is LAME! Not even any Shakira!

You can get a mic from pretty much any electronics store: Radioshack, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.

In other news, come on, someone has to try this!

Ill give it a shot once this sore throat that besieged my esophagus last night goes away.

Celaeno, the juxtaposition of your photo with the blurb under it is hilarious. I can't listen to stuff on the site from work, but I'm looking forward to hearing everybody's stuff (because by the time I get home there will be loads of submissions, of course) tonight.

I bet if you changed the title more people would do it.

And like I said, I need a mic, which should get here about next week.

Why don't you do it?

Posted by Celaeno (Member # 8562) on :

YES.

Eros, why don't you post yours?

I think he's afraid if he posts his, everyone else is going to be too intimidated to try it themselves. [Wink]

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I'm totally interested, and plan on submitting.

But there is no force on earth that will get me to submit anything while anyone else is in the house, including my dog, who is the family's loudest critic.

Annie, there IS some Shakira on there, I saw it yesterday when I was browsing. The only song they have is "Underneath Your Clothes."

Sadly, there is no Gary Jules, Dave Matthews, Les Miserables or 1776, all the stuff I like to sing along with in my car the most. I suppose I'll find something though. Tomorrow when I get home from work I'll have an empty house and I'll record something. We had something like this awhile back, though it was the Hatrack Acapella thread (which I believe I broke through inaction, sorry guys!). This should be cool. I know there are some good singers on this thread, (ahem, RAIA!).

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

I was about to say, doesn't Raia sing, like, as her major?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Indeed she does, and she's fantastic.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

A lot of the songs are in strange categories-- "Molly Malone" in "Christian", for example. I recommend searching and/or browsing all the categories or artists, it's apt to turn up something you didn't expect. (The first one I'm going to do is "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands"-- but I'm not using their lyrics, I'm using the ones I always sing. [Razz] )

Hrm, the internet kinda takes away the whole drunk and peer pressure angle.

I should just post my best version of Sweet Child O' Mine by GunsNRoses, as accompanied by my banjo. Before I learned how to play the banjo.

Then no one can be embarrassed ever again. [Smile]

I might give this a shot, if I can get my mic to work. Currently, it won't let me listen to anyone's songs. It just says, "Loading song, please wait..." forever [Frown]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

It did that to me earlier. Try closing the window, waiting a minute, and opening it in a new window again.

Posted by Juxtapose (Member # 8837) on :

Lyrhawn & ketchupqueen,
Thanks for the kind words. [Smile]

I've also been having a few problems with the site; internal errors and the like, mostly when I've tried to update my profile or save a song. Waiting a few minutes and resubmitting has generally worked for me.

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Thanks Lyr, Kqueen.

MC, the site has a lot of random problems, mostly because I don't think they were ready to get as popular as they're getting!

Posted by prolixshore (Member # 4496) on :

Hmm. If I sing in time with the music during the recording, I come out a half beat ahead of the music during the review. I'll have to play with it later.

--ApostleRadio

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Don't use the review button, it's often bugged. If you just save the recording (privately if you don't want people to hear it yet!), you can listen to it properly that way.

Bad Company? (nope, nevermind)

Cheap Trick?

Iggy Pop?

Ramones?

The Clash?

The Kinks?

Then there's the crap...

Blink 182

Sum 41

And there were several bands that border on punk, but are more metal so not worth mentioning.

Sorry, an Iggy Pop/Kate Pierson (of B-52s fame) song is not exactly a lot of punk. Yeah, they have the Clash and the Ramones, but where is Bad Religion, Pennywise, and others.

ludosti, I like your voice. Subdued without being timid, and it really shines, although I second Lyrhawn's comment that you should rock it out hard! [Big Grin]

Lyrhawn, post anyway! Half the fun of karaoke is knowing everyone's too drunk to quietly judge you! [Smile]

Although I have thought about turning the thread into a karaoke contest, with categories like "Most Ridiculous Performance," "Best Reinterpretation," "Most Obviously Intoxicated Performance," "Performance Which Most Sounds Like the Performer is Only Trying to Become Famous to Sleep With Paris Hilton," etc.

And it says Final Countdown was deleted. Dude, there's no deleting. If you all get to hear me wail out Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay like a drunk third grader, we get to hear yours [Smile]

It's not deleted... I mean, I think I'm listening to it right now. What am I listening to? Was he making laser noises and then singing in a hilarious falsetto? Cause if so.... I'm listening to it right now.

Whew, for some reason the link was messed up. TL has the right one, and I corrected mine.

Glad it wasn't really deleted, it took me an hour to find the perfect piece to start with. Go Europe!

Edit: Oh, make sure you update the link in the first post. The performance ID in the link text should be 254496 Thanks!

That's absolutely awesome, MightyCow. I had a smile on my face all the way through to the end. It's truly a performance in the finest of karaoke traditions. No one will dare to enter the stage after THAT!

I'm actually tempted to participate -- though my performance couldn't conceivably equal the awesomeness of MightyCow's -- but unfortunately I have no microphone.

I did the same thing, and I have the same grievance. At the same time, though, I kind of like that you have to do an entire song in a single take with no modifications to the sound.

No, I like that, too. It's why I really like karaoke. It's just going to take some getting used to, for songs with a lot of dynamic range, learning to really work the mic to keep the output where you need it.

I don't see that they have a policy against it, as long as it's not offensive.

I plan on singing the words I'm used to on some of the traditional songs they have different words to.

It's fun to hear what everyone's sung so far! I tried to record a song myself a few times tonight, but each time there there was a problem with the recording (voice got out of sync, or it was way too soft, or it was way too loud). Not to mention the terrible singing [Smile]

I might try again tomorrow or some other day, it's getting too late here to be noisy (don't want to bug the neighbors).

Yeah, the top recording of "99 Red Balloons" is some guy singing it in German with his kid, so I'm guessing that it's just fine. [Smile]

Nope, I'm pretty solidly in the 'tenor' range. I can sing the baritone range okay, but not with much depth in the lower reaches.

Which song(s) of mine made you think that? Do you remember?

Annie had so much fun recording songs with me yesterday that she stole my microphone. This leaves me with a great deal of equipment envy, eying up the best deals on computer recording equipment and new microphones. I think if she is going to leave me stranded, micless on the side of the internet, the least she could do is actually record a song and release it for us to hear. Am I right?

Would God I Were The Tender Apple Blossom, which, again, got quieter than it was when I reviewed it for some reason. Sorry. If you can't hear the words, I'll re-record and try to get it louder.

KQ, I listened to "In the Sweet By and Bye" - well, the first part of it (very slow internet)

You have a very sweet voice, and it seemed very well suited to the song.

Thank you! I actually think I did better on the last one I linked. (But apparently someone didn't like the fact that I "changed the words" to "Danny Boy", even though these are older words, or maybe they just didn't like my voice, 'cause they rated me 3 stars and left no comment. Oh, well! I like it!)

I keep trying to do "The Saga Begins" but I can't get all the way through it before I bust up laughing.

kq, maybe it's that your voice is kinda quiet, so it's hard to hear your changed words. I hope my rating helps balance it out though!

Edit: I added a new recording of Amazing Grace as well.

Do you think I should re-record it, dragon?

*goes off to listen to Amazing Grace*

List updated. I'm linking the first song everyone does so the list doesn't get cluttered, but Singshot lists your other songs directly below that one. Hooray, participation!

Yeah, I'd love to be able to hear what your lyrics are - I'm only familiar with the ones listed on the site.

I'm able to hear them when I turn it up, but then, I know what they are. It was louder when I recorded it, I had mic volume almost all the way up, reviewed it and it was fine, but then I saved it and it went softer. Same thing happened on another song. [Dont Know]

I can't record tonight, I'll try to get to it tomorrow (I'm thinking of trying to make the slideshow better anyway.) In the meantime, these are the lyrics I sang, except for a few words ("slender" instead of "silver", and a "your" for a "you" typo here and there. You may need to scroll down.) They're often listed simply under "Londonderry Air", but I don't use that title because it's politically charged and wasn't used until the 1920's or 30's anyway. I call the song by the words, and the tune by an older name-- "Air from County Derry."

And that's more than you ever wanted or needed to know. [Wink]

(Actually, if you want to know even more, I have an excellent link.)

Okay, I think I fixed the volume. Sound is not quite as good, and I still can't figure out how to keep the images in the order I want when making a slide show, but it's better than it was, I think. Tell me what you think, Dragon. [Smile]

I like it a lot! You have a wonderfully clear voice, it's perfect for this type of music.

Realized if I don't record now I probably never will, strep throat be damned. I've done karaoke once in my entire life so it took me awhile to build up the courage to try. But I felt it would be good for tearing down shyness.

Figures I'd chicken out and just do a falsetto song [Razz]

That's strep throat falsetto?

I'm impressed.

Third attempt at the song too, I don't how my vocal chords didn't start bleeding.

I have recorded a bunch of songs, now. Have a listen, if you dare!

Though in the interest of time and laziness, I will only link to one. You can navigate to the rest on your own, punks.
