Kind of a longshot I'll admit, but I did some looking after reading the LOTR thread that's on the front page, and I found that Alan Lee and Chris Tolkien are doing autographs in New York for the Children of Hurin when it comes out on April 17th.

The signing is at the Barnes and Noble on 5th Ave and 46th street. I don't suppose someone would be willing to get me a book and get it signed, then ship it to me? Obviously I'd be willing to pay for the book and the shipping, and I'll pay you for your time as well! I just can't possibly physically get there, and there's supposed to be some fantastic illustrations by Alan Lee in the book. I'd kill to get an autographed copy. There's a two book limit, so if whoever gets it for me wants to get one for themselves as well, I'd be willing to buy it for you.

I'll be forever grateful!

Edit to add: Actually the books have previously signed "bookplates" that were signed by Lee and Tolkien, so it really shouldn't be that bad of a time commitment, in that you wouldn't have to wait in a line to get it signed, it's just that there is a limited number (sale starts at noon) and it's done on a first come first serve basis.

I'll probably shy away from ebay, I don't feel like spending THAT much money, I'll just get the book at the bookstore at that point probably.

If someone here is already planning on going that'd be great [Smile] . If people are lining up that early don't worry about it, but maybe not that many people will know about the signed copies. I didn't find out until I checked onering.net, and most LOTR fans don't even like the rest of Tolkien's Middle Earth stuff (at least that's what I've found to be true). It's possible most people don't even know a new book is coming out, or that there's a chance to get autographed copies. It's not like an autographed LOTR, it's a bit more of a niche market.

So I was going to bring this back up for a reminder, but I forgot. Anyways, the books things it TODAY, TUESDAY, in NYC!

Just a reminder, mostly to Zeugma I guess, in case she has time to do it.

If you get this, and remember, thanks again Zeug [Smile]

PS, I'll email you a reminder.

Whoops.

As someone who's been mispronouned on here a few times, I feel sheepishly stupid.

Apologies.

We certainly appreciate the effort Zeugma. Looks like I'm going internet shopping [Smile]

Edit: Looks like the going rate for these on Ebay, with six days of bidding yet to go, is about $50. I think I'll be perfectly fine settling for a regular copy of the book. Even if it was worth a 1,000 dollars in 30 years, I still wouldn't sell it, thus monetary value doesn't much matter to me.
