The irony/juxtaposition hurts a little. On one hand, its mildly admirable to see people (the Neturei Karta) with conviction in their own beliefs even if I disagree with them. i.e. I have more respect for someone that honestly believes in what they say they believe in and follow it to the wherever it leads, versus someone more hypocritical (at the extreme, say someone digusting like Ted Haggard)

On the other hand, its a bit frightening in the linked article (Why are Jews at the 'Holocaust denial' conference?) that the group also believes that not only genocide is divine will, but that their *own* genocide was divine will and that attempting to stop subsequent genocide is also contrary to divine will. Yikes.

One also wonders who firebombed them, angry Jews unhappy with them for their views (which is what they suspect) or Muslims angry at Jews in general?

I am glad no one was hurt. And the timing sucks -- right before Pesach!

But the Neturei Karta are NOT Orthodox Jews. They have repeatedly violated Shabbos is public, among other things.

I hope it wasn't other Jews, though I have a sinking feeling it was. The criminals that did this have turned them in to victims, where before not many really took them seriously.

Agreed.

I don't think it was Jews, but their enemies. It might be rational to not fight people who are on your side, but people who do things like this are not totally rational.

One doesn't necessarily disqualify the other.

By that logic, the Charedi community in Mea Shearim isn't Orthodox either. (The issue with throwing rocks at passing cars on Shabbos is common knowledge, after all...)

Is that a serious statement?

If so, I'll deal with it in a couple days. I'm rather busy at the moment.

Meanwhile, I'll point out that a few misguided teenagers are not representative of their community. OTOH, a group's leaders and spokespersons ARE.

Also, NK violation of Shabbos is not the only reason they are outside the pale of Orthodoxy.
