I love stuff like this.

Two weeks ago I caught the last ten minutes of "The Dresden Files" on SciFi. I'd heard a very little about it, wasn't familiar with the books, and thought it was OK, maybe something I should check out later.
Got the first book, read it, loved it. Me being me, I then went and devoured the next 7 books in the series over the last week, and remained highly impressed with the characterization, the attention spent in making the magic seem logical and "right," and the twists and turns of each successive detective-fantasy-mystery plot. The latest book just came out and I admit I'm sorely tempted to buy the hardback.

I just got a call from my son, whom I haven't talked to in weeks. He wanted to spread the word that he had just bought a brand new hardback book for the very first time in his life, no discounts, no sales, right out of the box they had to open for him. For Tony, raised by the best bargain hunter in the known universe (my wife, Teresa), this was unheard of.

The book? "White Night," the latest in the Dresden Files series.

He and his roommates have gotten hooked on it from the show since it comes on after "Rome" and BSG, thereby sucking away 3 hours of his evening, and they've been trading the books back and forth for the last week. Had I ever heard of it?

I love stuff like this.

I just got hooked on the the show last week and intended to check out the books while I was in town tonight. I'm glad to hear they're good- I'll most likely buy one now.

It is amazing what you find hidden while walking down the Science Fiction/Fantasy aisle of your local bookstore isn't it. I discovered The Dresden series a while back. It was the title of the second book that grabbed my attention. Fool Moon. It just struck my fancy. I grabbed it and the first book in the series. I have since bought every one of the Dresden books (with the exception of the most recent one). I shall be correcting that in a moment. I believe that only the last three books have come out as hardback editions first.

Check out his website: Jim Butcher's Website.

Very fun books, and great characters. The TV show is good too, but of course, the books are much better. Well worth reading, and buying, even in hardcover!

Books are a lot of fun, though I've been slacking on the last book or two. I can go through those books in a night.

I too, have spent a few sleepless nights finishing the last 10 chapters of a Dresden book. Hard on my sleep, but I think it makes for a good review [Smile]

What a coincidence. I also just got hooked on the show last week. Guess I'll have to check out the books sometime this summer...

I got hooked on the show when it first came on, we've been watching it pre-BSG from the beginning. A week or two ago I downloaded the first three audio books, cause I read somewhere that they are read by James Marsters (of Buffy fame). They're amazing [Smile] Had I more time, I'd probably have made it through all of them by now, but as it is that'll have to wait till finals week...
