God.

I assume that Hurley nibbles their stubble to a cinematically appropriate length while they sleep. This answers both questions.

And it proves that Tom watches Lost. Perhaps the most important thing to come out in this thread.

We've seen Locke, I think it was, shaving.

I believe Sawyer was shaving at one point too. They definately started showering/shaving once they found the hatch, but now that it's gone... Also, the time that goes by on the island is a lot shorter than we think.

They did find ways to shave prior to the Hatch, and Hurley has always said that it was hard for him to lose weight. He also kept Dharma food hidden.
The rest of the people aren't losing weight because it isn't practical to have your actors go on starvation diets to look as if they have actually crashed on a deserted island. Some of them are doing other projects, too.

The black smoke turns into a razor at night and shaves everyone (women's armpits and legs too). Hurley digs up the bodies and eats them .

That explains the "clanking steel" sounds.
Sayid: What did you shoot, Locke? Locke: A boar. We need meat. *Both look closer* Sayid: You shot Hurley! Hurley: No, dude, he shot the boar I was eating.

cuz it's a TV show and Jack and Sawyer look a lot hotter with just the right amount of scruffiness. Further, no one wants to see the hotness that is Kate with leg/pit hair.

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes, and other science facts Just repeat to yourself "It's just a show, I should really just relax!"

Tick: I came *this* close to quoting that.

Oh, I was gonna say it's 'cause they aren't as manly as me.

They're all GeorgeMichael groupies; which also explains the lack of the pitter-patter of little feet.

How long have they even been on the island? Hasn't it only been a couple months?
Most of them, Hurley aside, weren't bad looking to begin with, so you aren't going to see any major physical changes, and they added the hidden Dharma food to explain why Hurley never loses weight.
And I'd imagine they have enough sharp implements around to keep the men just scruffy enough to make the ladies happy.

They got lost on 22 September 2004. It is now 10 April 2007.

In the one episode I've seen in the last year (i.e. last week's), Hurley comments that it's been three months.
