Lucas thinks Spidey 3 is a very silly movie.

Meanwhile, people only thought Star Wars was silly, "but it wasn't". -He says with a wink.

Interesting news on two new live action Star Wars TV movies. Could it be the long-awaited third and fourth films in the Ewoks saga? [Big Grin]

Oh no. Please no. Some one, somewhere, take away his power over the Star Wars verse. Lock him up, buy it off him, ban him from ever touching anything again except to produce. Please!

Hmm, a Rogue Squadron movie please? Kickass X-wing battles FTW!

I'll take that.

I'm assuming the thread title is tongue in cheek over what Lucas said about Spiderman 3, he was complimenting it.

Someone at work today told me they are making more Ewok movies, but I can't imagine that's really going to happen. Personally I'd much, much rather have a movie or two introducing Rogue Squadron at it's reformation after the New Republic is formed, basically starting from where the first book starts. Let that be a jump off point for a TV series about it too [Smile]

The spinoff is already built in, with Wraith Squadron, and between the action and excellently written characters, I think it would be a major hit.

I doubt it if only for the reason that the very few times Lucas -has- noticed the EU characters, it's only been to give them blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameos.

Well Rogue Squadron was his creation, as are Tycho Celchu and Wedge Antilles (especially).

Besides, I don't care if HE makes them, I just want them made. I'd be much happier if they approached Tim Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole for ideas while trying to find a director.

He's already said in the past that Star Wars isn't done and that he won't always be at the helm of everything, so I have no doubt that he'll let someone else create something in his universe, hell, that's what the entire EU is anyway.

Possibly. But, depending on what kind of wink that was, it's also possible that he praised his own project while implying it succeeded where he feels Spidey 3 failed.

Ambiguity! [Wink]

Tycho and Wedge get in the movies...blink-and-you'll-miss-'em cameos.

Fact: Ask anyone who -hasn't- read the EU who Wedge and Tycho are. Or what the Rogue Squadron is. Offer no more explanation than "they were in the Star Wars films".

Like I said, he barely touches that stuff. Never has, and I'm not sure he ever will.

On your first post...that's a valid point, he may very well have meant that. I personally got the impression he was kidding, but then I tend to like him more than most of America does, so I think that colors everyone's immediate reactions.

On your second post, I guess my point was that they aren't EU characters given a cameo by Lucas, they are characters created by Lucas who were given exposition by the EU. I think it's a subtle difference that, if it came down to Lucas' say-so would make a difference in his decision making process. The point being that he created them and used them before the EU even existed (wait, when did Splinter of the Mind's Eye come out?)

And I fully expect he will never make a movie out of the EU, I agree with you there. But he has let the EU guide him before, even if only in small moments. But that's fine, I'd like a new director to take on the EU anyway, not because I really dislike Lucas, but because I think it's time to pass the reins, and he already has other projects going on. Besides, the EU is the creation of others, and it is they who I would like involved creatively.

Oh c'mon... George Lucas did not invent the EuropeanUnion.

Rogue Squadron makes for decent video games, but I don't really see how a live-action TV series could pull a high-quality chain of super X-wing dogfights. These aren't movies we're talking about. This is 100 hours of film in a season.

I read something about the TV series at http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_live-action_TV_series

I don't think Tycho Celchu has ever been in the films, except for an EU retcon turning a previously unnamed character into Tycho in one movie or another (I think RotJ).

Wedge, BTW, has a bit more of a "blink or you'll miss it" cameo. Not much, and he's not called by name in the film (although it is in the script) but he is definetely a character, with lines and everything.

Where do you get this number from?

I'm almost positive that Wedge is called by name at lease once in one of the films.

And even if the show was an hour long, which I imagine it would be, for a 22 episode season, and 42 minutes or so an episode without commercials, that'd be something like 924 minutes, which is a little more than 15 hours, and obviously not all of that is going to be dogfights.

Waitaminute. The phrase that was used here was "TV movies", as in, feature-length movies that are shown on TV. If someone's slinging around 100 hours, aren't we talking more about a mini-series or a [/i]series[/i]?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

100 hours is a half dozen seasons of a television show, or to put it in Battlestar Galactica terms (for mini-series), something like two dozen mini series's.

Wedge is called by name in every film. He's there at the battle of Yavin.

"Look at the size of that thing." His line.

Luke "Thanks Wedge." After Wedge saves him.

He's Luke's wing man at the Battle of Hoth. And is called by name several times. He eventually gets hit and goes down, but survives.

He's Red leader in the battle of Endor, where he has all sorts of line talking to Lando and where he gets called by name on multiple occations again.

Wedge gets far more than "blink and you'll miss" cameos. That's why he's the name sake of Wedge-type characters [Razz]

If Lucas did not create a character, that character will probably not be seen. He would have to pay royalties to the author that created said character.

This sort of happened in Star Trek. Voyager and Enterprise orignally wanted 2 of their characters to be from other series, but then they would have had to pay royalties to the creator of the episodes they came from. (T'pol and Paris)

So wait, is the Wedge character from the Final Fantasy series named in honor of SW Wedge?

Yes. I think in FF6, there are two characters, Wedge and (I think) Biggs. Biggs was Luke's buddy, who ended up dying in the battle of Yavin.

and ff7, and ff8, and ff9, and ff10, and ff11, and...

Yeah. Biggs and Wedge were... Wedge-type characters in FF7. And FF8. I don't remember them in 9, but I think there were in 10... I don't remember them in 12 so far, but maybe I just don't remember.
