To answer your question... off the top of my head... I'd say "dunno". Depends on a lot of things - ease of travel, local security/stability, reputation of department you'd be joining, family contact issues, weather or not you can stand the heavenly climate... (or the storms)...
I assume you've done a pro/con list? Hoping someone here at Hatrack has more intimate experience with Trinidad/Tobago?
My personal experience is limited to very happy, friendly people I've met here in Canada from the islands - who left Trinidad/Tobago to find more opportunity here. But then, you'd be creating opportunity there in your field, yes? That's got to be pretty satisfying.

My brother is on an LDS mission in the West Indies. If I recall, he said Trinidad had a lot of crime, and everyone drove crazily. He loves Guyana, said Grenada was beautiful but touristy, and has not been to Tobago.

Well, do you LIKE Trinidad and Tobago? Do you mind being away from family and friends? Would you be comfortable there? What kind of access to health care and the like would you have? How expensive would it be? Have you ever been there?
Tons of questions I'd have to see answers to before I gave you my say so one way or the other.

Go for it!
Nothing worse than looking back and thinking "If only..." The worst that could happen is that you don't like it and come home. If people are offering you work, than the chances are that you are good enough in your chosen field to have no problems finding something closer to home *if* you have to return.

You should do more internet searching...my personal opinion is that Trinidad is a crime ridden third world cesspool that happens to have some of the largest reserves of natural resources in the world. Tobago is the "nice" island, but is still only second world at best.

Thanks for the input.
I have been there to interview but unfortunately my visit was quite short. My husband and I have of course been doing detailed research on the country and weighing pros and cons.
In truth I'm not sure why I posted the question here. Certainly we won't make our decision based on the vote at hatrack. I simply thought it would be interesting to see how people reacted to the possibility and to see if anyone had any questions we might have overlooked or insider knowledge.
