Ok, so I'm going to a wedding in Newport Beach a few weeks before I am due to have my second child. I know, I know, too close to my due date but there is a huge backstory, and I have my doctor's permission barring huge physical danger to myself or the baby. And I have to have a hospital lined up "just in case". Half of my stay we are staying down near Camp Pendleton, but I'm pretty sure the best hospital to give birth near there is the Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women, which is in San Diego. Where is a good place to stay that is between the two for easy access to the hospital in case of emergency? Is the Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women a good place to give birth?

As for Newport Beach, I was looking for feedback about the Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley.

I've done basic research and these both seem to be good hospitals for both vaginal and c-section births, and have lower complication rates than their neighbors. If anyone has specific info about either of these or other nearby hospitals, please share! Or if anyone knows of a good 'comparison shopping' site for CA hospitals, I would also appreciate hearing about it.

Please help!

I stay at the Hampton Inn in San Marcos often when visiting family, I think it is decently close to both. Very nice hotel to.

Those are both pretty good hospitals, from what I hear, although I don't personally know anyone who's delivered in any of them. I can try to find out where my friend who lives in SD delivered and what she thought of it, I suppose.

I was born in Sharp Hospital, and you can see how I turned out. That was a while ago, though, so they could have improved. I think my sister may have had her four kids at Sharp -- I can check with her. I'm pretty sure my sister-in-law had hers at Scripps (though possibly they just moved the baby there a couple days later), and that one was a major emergency at seven months due to preeclampsia, but both she and the baby (my nephew Jacob) came through and are fine a couple years later.

[Edit -- just looked at the story, and my sister-in-law gave birth at another hospital, then they moved the baby to Sharp until a space opened up in the NICU at La Jolla Memorial (which may be an alternate name for Scripps -- can't tell) a few hours later. Not actually clear what the first hospital was.]
