I've just finished reading the first Hellblazer TPB (Original Sins, by Paul Delano). I picked it up because I really, really like Constantine in Swamp Thing.

So far, my impression of Delano's Constantine is awful. The narration is heavy to the point of corniness, the personal feelings of the author overtake the story, and the conflicts hardly elicit any suspense. It's hard to follow in Alan Moore's footsteps, I know (by the way, the way Delano did Alec Holland's quick cameo convinced me he had no writing ability), but this is just pathetic.

Tell me, Hatrack: is it worth it for me to invest any more money in Hellblazer? Does it get better? [I}When[/I] does it finally improve? Comic books are expensive, and so far this one's seeming like a waste.

In other news, I'm seriously lovin' Morrison's run on Doom Patrol.

Hellblazer does indeed get better. And then it gets worse. And then it gets better again. Individual arcs wax and wane. [Smile]

(BTW, I think you mean Jaime Delano. And I will say that if you dislike Delano's version of Constantine, you probably won't like Hellblazer until you get to the Garth Ennis run, considerably later.)
