My new favorite song.
By John Rutter.
This isn't my group, but I did perform this with another choir a couple months ago and I'll be doing it again with a quartet later in the summer. [Smile]

Like most John Rutter, it doesn't thrill me ("Candlelight Carol" is the one exception, I love that.) But to each his own. [Smile]

Awww...
I cried the first time I heard this.
But I'm a sucker for the ideals of Human unity.
The yearning of the song breaks my heart.
And the harmonies are freaking out of this world.

I don't have a problem with the words; it's just that the music is not my type.

John Rutter definitely has a formula. So as a singer, I find his arrangements predictable...but they're awfully effective for the audience, so I guess that's OK.

Do you know "Prayer of the Children"? Here's a link. Please ignore the cheesy graphic at the top of the page...it was the first site I found that was playing the song.

Anyway, it's one of my very favorite pieces to sing.

I like his Psalm 23 choral rendition myself.

For the Beauty of the Earth is just wayyy too oversung.

Ketchupqueen, I don't hear alot of Rutter so he's still fresh for me. I'm curious, what kind of classical/religious music do you like?

In other news I'm performing Carmina Burana with the Dearborn Summer Music Festival Chorus in July and September. Super amounts of fun! And I just got appointed on thursday to sing the first male solo! [Big Grin] Auditions were scary and I wasn't counting on getting it but I am very excited. This will be my first serious solo. Last year I had a solo, 'Do You Hear the People Sing', when we did 'Les Miserables' medely but that was easy compared to this one.

I've heard ALOT of Rutter. He definitely has a formula, but he is one of the few that writes within the genre, and his offerings are enjoyable. Candlelight Carol and Prayer of the Children are both wonderful songs.

The Cambridge Singer's version of O Holy Night is the best rendition of the song I've ever heard.
