Anyone else an irrational urge towards violence upon seeing those words?

I'm not a confrontational person. But when I see those words, I feel the desire to hit something.

Thankfully, Hatrack is a place devoid of this sort of post.

What do we have that would even make those words relevant?

(I also hate seeing them.)

At the www.somethingawful.com forums you get instantly banned if you make a "First Post."

It's kinda funny in a sad sort of way to see somebody pay the $10 registration fee and get banned on their first day.

I think it's annoying because it's a weird sort of thing to compete over. I also don't like last post ones where the number of comments are limited.

Well, we do have our own first post-ish tradition: competing over who will be first to report the spammers.

I think that's a healthy first post attitude though.

Spammers are different. Therec are few things as satisfying as stomping down a dirty, rotten spammer. [Big Grin]

Hi Puffy Treat, welcome to the forums. You'll like it here, there is a lot of great information.

Is that the response I am supposed to give to first posters.

I think you're missing the point brojack. PT wasn't talking about replying to a new member's first post. He was talking about how on some websites/blogs/forums, when something is posted(article, blog, news item) people compete to be the first person to respond to it. Most post for no other reason than to claim the "first post" position and say nothing of value whatsoever.

Yeah, that was the kind of "first post" I was referring to. Not "Hi, I'm new here" posts...but "FIRST POST! NEENER-NANNY-BOO-BOO!" posts. [Wink]

I see.

I've never run into those... Hmmm.

I, too, thought that you meant new people saying Hi to everybody.

I immediately went back in time in my head, trying to remember whether or not I made a 'First post' thread... I was nervous for a second.

But even if it was that type of "first post", that's not how you respond...maybe an insult that wouldn't get you banned but that would make them realize that they're noobs.
