Some of you might remember four years ago now when Nathan fell out of a tree and busted both the ulna and radius in his left arm. And almost 4 weeks to the day of getting the cast off, he slipped and fell playing "King of the Mountain" and busted his left wrist.

I got a call at work on Tuesday. He fell from the monkey bars and broke his right arm. Both the ulna and the radius.

Smart alecky comments being a dime a dozen and a great way to while away the time waiting for pain meds to kick in, here's what he had to say when I teased him about not having to practice his writing and math for the rest of the summer: "Oohh -- I just need to break the right wrist then, next."

He's in a full arm cast, and was told to kiss his summer bye-bye. No baseball, no bike jumping, no skateboarding, no swimming, yadda yadda. Poor wretch. *sigh*

He's in good spirits, all things considered, and taking a very positive outlook and attitude on all this. What a kid!

Whew!

When I saw this thread I thought it was about me. I thought "What did I do now?"

Yikes, I'm really self-absorbed.

Anyway, you're Nathan sounds like a great kid. I hope he gets better soon. [Smile]

Poor kid. At least he has a sense of humor like his mom. [Smile]

When I saw the subject line, and before I saw who'd started the thread, I thought that I was going to be reading a story involving a pair of orange tights.

Update:

Nathan’s in a full cast as of yesterday afternoon. No bone slippage so far, and since the bones were broken straight in half as opposed to jagged and trying to poke through the skin (like last time), we should be able to heal very well. They’ll x-ray him once a week for the next two, and he still needs to keep very still for the next two weeks – very limited range of activities. Sleeping, reading, watching TV. He’ll keep the full cast for 6-8 weeks and then a half cast for 2 more weeks after that.

His pediatrician is hooking us up with a bone specialist at Children’s Hospital, too. A doctor that apparently focuses pretty exclusively and comfortably with children who have bone density issues. So, we’ll see.

He’s continuing to be a very brave and patient boy. Any ideas you have for ways to amuse a teen who’s broke his dominant hand would be most helpful! Even Bugs Bunny and Harry Potter pale after a while!
