Last night the following dialog occurred in my dream:

Writer: The character will be like Gollum.
Critic: You mean short, bug-eyed, eats raw fish and talks to jewelry?

My first thought was, "Wow. I'm witty in my sleep."

About 5000 thoughts later I thought, "Hmm-stupid one line descriptions of popular culture characters. That sounds like a Hatrack Game."

So here it is:

He's the opposite of a sociopath, meaning he kills all kinds of people because he cares too much, then whines about it. (Ender)

He's the superhero who puts his mask on when he's not being the superhero. (Superman -- Clark Kent's glasses are just a thin Lone Ranger mask.)

I don't think that's a good example. That description is actually very profound. [Smile]

I agree. The Superman description is rather elegant. Apt. In fact, DC should use it.

They used that description of Superman in Unbreakable I believe, although I could be wrong.

Pixiest: Pretty neat, but power convertors are serious business!

He's a drunk who got himself killed trying to escape prison rather then serve out his menial sentence. (The other Luke, the more cool handed Luke)

I think you're thinking of Bill's speech about Superman in Kill Bill Vol.2.
quote:
As you know, l'm quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book. Not particularly well-drawn. But the mythology... The mythology is not only great, it's unique. Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent. He's weak... he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race.

Perhaps it would be a better game if the describer didn't say who he was describing, and others had to guess? I'll have a shot:

Not to draw out the suspense, if a third person either guesses wrong or says they're blank, I'll say who I was thinking of. Three strikes rule.
