The Care Bears are 25 years old this year. In celebration, American Greetings has introduced a new Care Bear, 'Oopsy' Bear, the Care Bear who continually screws up. 'Oopsy' is getting his own movie this week, being put into (very) limited release.

A running gag is that he alone, out of all the Care Bears has no Tummy Symbol, so he's continually drawing new patterns on his belly.

I'm sure 'Oopsy' will be a splendid addition to the Care Bear family, which at last count included more than a dozen non-Bears and at least two non-mammals!

They're also introducing a brand new enemy for the Care Bears, a microcephalic cyborg bear named "Grizz". This is in contrast to the revamped Care Bear design, they now all have heads that put the PowerPuff Girls to shame.

...yes, I'm having a slow day.

Is this like...real? Or are you so bored you're making this up?

It's real. Though I did fudge the new Care Bear head-size a little!

I was worried that Oopsie wasn't potty trained yet. Thank goodness he just has a huge head and poor hand-eye coordination.

Is it just me or were all the carebears missing their tummy symbols about half way through the trailer?

Also, Grizz strangely reminded me of a demented Teddy Ruzpin.... Coincidence? I think not! [Wink]

From what I understand, Grizz "stealing" the Care Bear Tummy Symbols is a major plot point.

Ooh, how epic. [Big Grin]

I had the penguin (Cozy Heart) when I was a kid; I thought he was cute. Who's the other non-mammal?

I vaguely remembered a frog one, but I must be wrong. There's no such character to be found through my web search.

Wow, I had no idea the Care Bears still existed... or at least, that anyone would still want to try and market them.

When I was very little, a picture book called "The Care Bears and the Terrible Twos" was one of my favorites. I guess someone must've given it to me when Mike turned two.

Toy brands almost never die...they just retool themselves.

At first, I wondered why this wasn't going straight to video.

Then I remembered: it must be in at least limited release to be Oscar-eligible.

Ah, then the previous outcast will suddenly be the only one who knows how to cope without a tummy symbol. The one-eyed bear will be king in the land of blind bears! [Eek!]

Why has nobody though of this type of plot device before?!?! It's genius!
