If this frozen salman plastic packaging was shown to have a hole in it during thawing is it still safe to eat?

How does it look? Smell? How long have you had it and how was it stored?
I always put things in a ziplock bag before I freeze them, to prevent tears in the original packaging.

Oh, and what method did you use to defrost it?

It comes in a plastic airtight package... It smells ok, but tastes a bit like... plastic or something...
I wonder if I should have ate some of it... I bought it on Saturday and just unfroze it yesterday. it still had a few ice crystals on it. It looks rather pink and grey...
I put it in the fridge like the instructions said.

In the fridge, I would think it would be fine (as long as you put it in a bowl or something.) In the microwave I would have said definitely. Room temp or sink I would have said no. If you defrosted it and it wasn't in a bag, bowl, or other container to prevent contamination, I wouldn't eat it.

it was just right on the fridge shelf in the bag with the hole in it.
I do have a back up dinner at least.
My lunch for tomorrow, part of it...
Perhaps I will take the fish and try to revive it with soy sauce to hide the plasticy weird taste.

I would not take chances. I would throw it out, not try to hide the taste.

It sounds probably safe to me -- just freezer burned. I doubt it'll taste very good, though.
