This is the start of my third or fourth week in Germany (Isn't it terrible? I have completely lost track of time.). It's been great so far, what with my host family and school and general cultural-strangeness. I have to say, school is waaaay different here from what I experienced back home- a lot less intensive, in all possible senses. Luckily enough, I have yet to experience any homesickness, though I've heard that a worse case sets in later. Mostly I've been too busy to think about much of anything. As far as language goes, I understand most of what ges on, though my horrid shyness keeps me from speaking as much as I should. Wolfsburg isn't the prettiest city around, though the little town where I live has a bunch of great bike paths and whatnot, so that's where I spend a fair amount of time.

Oh, and thanks for all the gift suggestions. They were absolutely thrilled with what I ended up bringing.

That's interesting. Because the German foreign exchange students we've had here have said American schools are waaayy less intensive than theirs!
I wonder what causes the perception difference?

I'm trying to stay as far away from politics as humanly possible, mostly because I know I'd never be able to defend my opinions.
Perhaps it was just my old school -- very intense college prep.
