...linkity-link...

My Kids are going to a Good Public School in CA!

I... can't tell if this is an extension of the spam lately or not.

I was wondering exactly the same thing, Architraz. Maybe crazy left-wing spam?

edit: not to say opposing some of the practice of the academies is crazy left-wing stuff, just that the article writer seemed rather naive about the purpose of a *military* academy.

Does this mean Fox News will be joining next and posting articles to keep us balanced?

I've always assumed that it was common knowledge that the U.S. Naval Academy and the like were primarily for military training.

Whats up with the random capitalization?

This looks like spam.

Sadly it's a real article from a real person. The reader comments at the bottom alone will bring you to tears, of Laughter!

The time for Empire may not be far off. The week minded are becoming more than burden, but a threat to the whole.

No, but a random "Mallard Fillmore" strip will be forcibly attached to the bottom of everyone's posts.

I think the OP is mocking the writer of the letter in the link as "someone [that] is This Stupid and Self Absorbed!" (and so much so that "Suspension of Disbelief is required" to read the story).

I don't know what to make of the shout-out to California public schools. Maybe evidence that the OP isn't elitist? [Confused]

I do think it's spam, though. I doubt we'll see the OP come back again, and even more doubt that he/she would post on other topics.

Those dang people who can only think in terms of seven days!

Oh, how I despise them. [Big Grin]

The article writer mentioned UC Berkeley as the other option for her brother...

Hmm, he came back. In that case, I'll pile on the bandwagon of posters that commented on that...

When going to an academy for four years obligates you to server five years in the associated branch of military, it takes a truly spectacular sort of idiot to believe the two aren't linked at the hip. Naivety doesn't even come close to allowing that sort of mental block to occur; only idiocy or being deliberately obtuse. How does one go about requesting a letter from their senator or congressmen without acknowledging their commitment to the full 9 year commitment? Maybe her brother knew what he was doing, and just decided it wasn't worth the confrontation to tell her.

On the bright side, if her brother makes it through at Annapolis, he'll be a commissioned officer!

I'm not sure of the point of this post, if the OP, like most of us, finds the writer of the article a bit silly/dim. I mean, do most of us need to be told that there are stupid people lurking in the world? My daily commute is enough of a reminder.

I love this reply:

That's a hard-hitting expose there. It has since been revealed that the US Military Academy at West Point is affiliated with the US Army, and the US Air Force Academy has something to do with the Air Force though what that is exactly remains to be discovered.

I'm glad this information is finally in the open. Maybe it's the uniforms that tipped you off?

Oh my god. Reading that article -- a great disturbance in my IQ, as if millions of neurons suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

You know, this may be the thing I found most disturbing about Empire: that, to a certain class of person, the events of that book constituted wishful thinking.

Johntae is obviously in favor of some kind of societal revolution, as made distinct through Strange Punctuation and technocratic affiliation.

What wonders might there be in one who takes somem dumb and turns it into a plan for new hegemony? Will there be totalitarianism? Eugenics? A warrior society? Do tell, Johntae -- what's your vision for how society should adapt to fit your model.

[ROFL]

Personally I thought this was a thread about the impending season premiere of Stargate Atlantis.
