I remember watching the original cast version on Bravo years ago.

Ooo
Johnny Depp.
I'd watch him make a sandwich for 3 hours.

That looks awesome.

I hope it's a roast beef sandwich, that would be delicious.

Fantastic.

I definitely went "WHEE!" whenever I saw Alan Rickman. [Wink]

So, this is how I read the cast list: Johnny Depp (yay!), Helena Bonham Carter (cool!), Sacha Baron Cohen (...huh? The Borat guy? Who thought that was a good idea), Alan Rickman (yay!).

I will almost certainly see this, in spite of the presence of Sacha Baron Cohen. I hope they all sing well. [Big Grin]

"the Borat guy" is actually a very talented comedic character actor, so i'm sure he'll do great! [Smile]

I'm really looking forward to this immensely.

Wow, I'm looking forward to this too, althouhh I'm surprised I am. I sort of like the play/musical/operetta (?), and I think that Johnny Depp can totally pull off the role.

Erk...looks interesting, but why is he using the Jack Sparrow voice again? I know it's one of his most popular roles, but he's talented enough to have come up with something different.

Seconded. Or, you know, watch him kill people and sing about it. [Big Grin] That said, this looks lovely.

The Jack Sparrow voice? Do you mean an English accent? Because, ya know, Sweeney Todd is usually portrayed as an Englishman [Smile]

I want to see it now.

I saw an ad for this today.

While no one will ever out-do Angela Lansbury and George Hearn, I might enjoy this. But only if they haven't gone and removed half of the songs. It kind of looks like they might have.

And Sweeney just ain't Sweeney without "A Little Priest," "My Friends," "Green Finch & Linnet Bird," "The Worst Pies In London," "Johanna," "Pretty Women," "Not While I'm Around," "Ah, Miss," and all the rest!

They have? [Eek!]

Well, then I'll forget watching it!

Given the trailer, I'm worried they might have. No music until the very end strikes me as a bad sign.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Edit: Looks like YouTube has at least some of the songs. Perhaps I am reading too much into the trailer.

Oh, the trailer. Well, the trailers for 99% of all the recent musical films try to downplay the musical numbers for some reason. The only exception to this that I can think of are the ads for Dreamgirls and Hairspray, which had the "out" of being about performers with a legitimate reason to sing and dance.

No Worse Pies in London?
You got to have Worse Pies in London. That song makes me laugh. It would be like leaving out Cookies in Toad and Frog. Or What is this Feeling in Wicked.
Or The Song That Goes Like This in Spamalot.

I did list "The Worst Pies in London," because I entirely agree!

Patti LuPone
The incomparable Angela Lansbury
