I have been using Firefox for a couple of years and usually it doesn't give me any problems. At least I don't recall any problems. But recently I have noticed Firefox using more and more memory (sometimes upwards of a 100MB). At home this is no problem, but at work it puts quite a strain on my system. Has it always been a resource hog and I am just realizing it now? Is there something I can do about it?
I appreciate any help you guys can provide.

100MB of memory isn't a whole heck of a lot.

100MB+ is typical for Firefox.

no, but my system at work is already far exceeding my expectations for what it should be able to do. Every resource counts.
I'm using a 2.5 Ghz Celeron D with 512 ram for pre-press and layout work. Adobe CS1 taxes this machine pretty heavily when I have Acrobat AND Illustrator open simultaneously (who knows what would happen if I put CS2 on here) and add the IT departments Panda Virus software, and firefox to the mix and my machine gets tremendously bogged down. I am trying to keep it running as smoothly as possible.
I've put in for a new system, but it took me 3 months for them to provide this one, so who knows how long I'll be waiting.

See, at home I thought I was getting in the 50s for Firefox. I could be wrong.

I've got three tabs opened right now in a session that I started two hours ago and I'm currently at 80 megs.
Do you see 100MB as soon as you start up? Do you have any plugins installed?

Adblock Plus, FOrecast Fox and Bugmenot

You could ask for more RAM instead of a whole new box. I don't know if they'd be more or less reluctant to give you that, though.

Ugh. That sounds like an awful system for that kind of work.

It would take the same time. nobody is denying me a new box, it just takes awhile to get anything done around here, but I might do that.
