This sucks. He's been on my list of authors to read for awhile now and I finally got around to checking The Naked and the Dead out of the Library. So of course just as I begin to explore his works his life starts coming to an end.

I've heard his later work just got weirder and weirder, especially his most recent book.

I thought he was already dead, to be honest.

According to IMDB ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0537551/bio ), he's 84 years old. It's gonna be tough for someone of that age to get through respiratory problems like that. A shame.
