I do a NaNo column every year that only appears online, and usually a small blurb for our print edition. This year I had the chance to write a slightly longer blurb and I was psyched.

And then I was told, at the last minute, that one of the regular writers was out and could I possibly write a little more? So they could make it today's centerpiece? Fortunately I'm a wordy cuss, I had some quotes from local writers, and NaNoWriMo founder Chris Baty was nice enough to give me an interview with almost no notice at all.

So our entertainment section was taken over by NaNo today. Here's the article, and may I say that even though I've been writing for the paper for 4 years I still get juiced when I see my name in print.

Yeah, it's kind of like running a marathon. I guess that's why the logo is that guy in the shorts holding a giant pencil.

I might not do it this year after all. I'm getting really confused about what I want to write, and I may start some independent study courses instead.

I may actually do this this year - that is, if I can ever decide on a closed vs. open fantasy setting.

Don't feel bad, Chris. It's not even my name and I'm excited to see it. I can say, "That's that guy I know online." [Smile]

Great article. I finished my scene spreadsheet and I'm making sure they all have some kind of conflict and either develop character or move the plot along. So far, so good. I just hope my nerves can make it another week.

I decided the independent study wasn't such an emergency, so I guess I'm back in. I'm still a little confused about what to write, though.

Wow, I did not know Water for Elephants was a NaNo book!

Also, Avid - I have the same reaction.
