I have this problem with my computer lately where its almost impossible to watch a video file without the image stalling. The audio keeps right on going but the picture sticks and stalls.
I don't know if its a Windows Media Player problem or if I should be blaming my currently dying Dell laptop. I keep restarting my computer which has been known to help in the past and also shutting down any unnecessary programs running in the background. But still no luck.
Any advice?

The single most common cause of symptoms like those is a host of spyware, malware, and their cousins.
If you go to start->Run and type msconfig, then hit enter, then click on the startup items tab, do you see a whole lot of things checked?

Sometimes when I am watching streaming/fully duffered video, the sound can't keep up with the picture. The lag will sometimes get more pronounced the longer into the show I watch.
I definatly recommened Adaware for the removal of unwanted, uninvited, evil malicious programs(known as spyware).
