In Switzerland, a man may not relieve himself standing up after 10pm. In England, putting a stamp on upside down is an act of treason.

Ummmm that's not equality. How is it any better if he can still urinate standing up before 10pm?

She's less groggy and less likely to not notice the seat up in the middle of the night and fall in? What a strange law...

It's illegal in most and possibly all places to "get fish drunk" -- ie to poison water, chum, or bait to make fish easy to catch -- just as there are laws against using explosives in fishing.

In a larger town near where I live in Minnesota, there is a law that says if an automobile enters the city limits, a person must run ahead of it shouting 'A car is comiing. A car is coming'. So, people can run out and grab their horses.

Another law say that when a man and a woman walk down the street together, the man must always be on the curb side. I assume that is because if a car or horse and buggy come up the street and splash water from a puddle, the woman will be protected from the splash.

I'd always heard that this was because in some part of the world, a woman walking on the curb side meant she was for sale, or some such similar nonsense.

Apparently it is still legal to shoot Welshmen from the walls of the town of Chester* with a bow.

Well, it's one way to pass an afternoon.

* Chester is here

Most ludicrous is different from most absurd:
quote:
It is illegal not to tell the tax man anything you do not want him to know, but legal not to tell him information you do not mind him knowing (3%)

... and another from 1313 stating it is illegal to enter the Houses of Parliament wearing a suit of armour.
Makes plenty of sense given the date. I'm just a little surprised it's still on the books.

Then again, leaving it on the books doesn't hurt a heck of a lot. Well, except for the pro-armour lobby [Wink]

In North Carolina it is illegal to plow a field with an elephant.

One I like:
In North Carolina it is illegal to be in the left lane if you are not passing or turning. I saw this enforced the other day between New Bern and Kinston. Two cars going along side by side, speed limit of seventy. Both cars were doing fifty. The one in the left lane was pulled because the nearest left turn was about ten miles away. That brought joy to my heart. That guy was an idiot.
