So today I dropped my Palm Treo. It hit the hard concrete floor and the screen crapped out. Half of it is dark and the other half is a strange negative print type color. All my information was still there and it is still functioning in all ways other than my ability to see the information on the sreen. I'm obviously ticked off at my self but not too much because I know that I haven't lost the information on the phone. I go home try to sync the palm to my PCU and have no luck. It syncs all my memos and media but not my contacts and calendar. I have never been able to do this, something I realize now I should have addressed about a year ago. Again, no big deal, I figure I'll hook my Wireless Sync back up (I cancelled my data package a while back as I realized I was only really using my calendar and contacts on the phone and was wasting money with the e-mail and web) and still be able to get my info. I call Verizon and spend an hour and a half with various people getting my plan changed to allow the sync and then walking through the steps to get it set up. Something I could have done on my own, as I did the first time, but decided to make sure I do it right so I don't lose the information I need. Everything is set and I hit the button to Sync... It goes through the motions... I'm feeling good because I'm finally done... and then blammo! Contacts all transfer over but my Calendar is completey empty. Every thing gone. I realize this is my own dang fault for letting my Sync issues go, but hearing the lady tell me, "Wow that really stinks, I'm so sorry. Now, is there anything else I can help you with?" about made me lose it.

So anyways... I don't want to drop 500.00 bones on another Treo, so does any one have any suggestions for a replacement? I'm looking at the Moto Q. anyone know anything about that phone? I like the media aspect and like I said above, I use the Calendar feature pretty heavily. A lot of people tell me that having a smartphone and no data plan is kind of pointless, but I'm an orgizational mess and always having my planner in my pocket has been a huge lifestyle improvment for me. So I'm willing to pay the little extra for a phone that will do a decent job of calendar tasks, instead of paying for a seperate Palm Pilot I'll never have with me.

I heard the Q is good. I have the Blackjack from AT&T and I am pretty happy with it.

I am loving my Blackjack. They are coming out with a Blackjack 2 this month. The only difference that I've really picked up on is that Blackjack 2 has wifi? If that's not a huge need for you, you can find a refurbed Blackjack for $50 or less on AT&T's website. If you get it through Amazon you get it for free (with service plan, which you'd need anyways)

I've got an iPhone and I've only had one minor problem with it. The phone tab froze on voicemail so I couldn't call anyone. I couldn't even access the key pad. Other than that, I love it. My other huge problems have been with AT&T themselves.

I will also support the iPhone. It will only get better once Apple releases their SDK in February and folks start releasing software for it. I had a Treo prior to this and do miss out on the increased functionality as a result of third-party applications, but that should be addressed shortly.

As far as money is concerned, I actually will end up saving money from the iPhone in the long run. My Treo was $40 for voice and $40 for internet every month. The iPhone is $40 for voice and $20 for internet. $20 savings every month over a 24 month contract period ends up saving me $480 dollars, which makes up for the up-front cost of the phone.

AT&T hasn't provided me with much of a problem. Surfing outside of wi-fi areas definitely takes patience, particularly with more complex web pages, but the experience isn't bad at all.

If you can afford it, spring for the iPhone, but be prepared to pay with debit or credit, since Apple isn't accepting cash or gift cards as a way to limit folks to buying only two of their phones this holiday season.

I also have an iPhone, and I love it. I really can't imagine ever using anything else again.

beatnix19, what version of Palm Treo did you have?

I had the palm 700p. I loved it. Didn't have a single complaint for the year + that I owed it. I just really cant afford to put up the money it would cost me to buy it again right now.

I purchased the Molorola Q last night and so far its not a bad phone. It's no where close to my palm but it may service my needs and was much more affordable.

iPhone: no cut and paste, no voice dialing, no mp3 ringtones, no recording video

meh.

Here's a crazy question: have you looked into sending your phone to the manufacturer for repairing? I once dropped a PocketPC phone and cracked the screen. I sent it to the manufacturer, since it was not under warranty or insurance, and they fixed it for me for about a hundred bucks.

Palm charges 25.00 for every phone call to their tech depatrment. So if you need any help you have to pay for it. I've decided palm sucks. I mean I love the phone and its been great but something about a tech support department that charges for each call really rubs me the wrong way. So no, I haven't considered that.

Wait, what? I thought people had to accept cash. o_O

People have to accept cash as in-person payment on debts; they don't have to accept in for a purchase.

That's not what I have been told, and I work in retail. [Smile]

The way I understand it, a business can decline to accept cash. I'm not sure about in-person payments, but I would assume it works the same way. [Smile]

<-- Used to work in retail.

I took my Motorola Q back. I hated it. Everything about it was just... I don't know... I just hated it.

I traded it in for the new Samsung Smartphne . So far, and I've only had it for about 5 hours, I like it a hundred times better than the Q. It even has the potential to be a better phone than my Palm Treo was, and as I've stated previously, I loved my treo. Of, course, I paid a good bit more for this phone but it has plenty of features that make it worth it. Tough Screen, sliding key pad, regular phone number pad office mobile, a notpad, a functional calucltor, and a few other things the Q didn't have that I wanted.

My wife just started working for AT&T as a call center rep, and I keep teasing her about buying an iPhone.

I don't want one because I don't want the monthly bill. [Smile]

I have always heard that cash is the only thing that all businesses are REQUIRED to accept for in-person payment.
