Does anyone else play on FICS? I'v been really into chess lately, studying openings and tactics and whatnot, and I just got FICS (my computer was having issues which had prevented me from getting it until now). My handle is (duh!) Jumbowumbo, and if people here play regularly, well....I guess that's probably not so good for me.

I just joined it, and have been having a little trouble with the interface, so my rating is pretty low (1780), but it's not bad.

1780? That's not low! 2000 is Expert, and 2200 and above are Masters. You would be a class B player (ten rating points from Class A), which means you would have had to study a LOT of chess.
How long have you been playing?

I tried playing on FICS once, but I never got into it. I do play on KGS, though.

I can't play chess with Jumbo after seeing the gross apathy for human/alien life on Halo 3. Frankly he terrifies me.

Eh, I learned how the pieces moved Freshman year of HS (Freshman in college now). I don't think I am particularly good. Well, I am by far the best at my college chess club, but at my HS chess club I was one of the worst... probably have a complex because my HS was the best in the state by quite a bit... I wish I had gone there throughout HS, I only went there starting senior year. My first HS where I learned how to play was one of the worst in the state.

And Mike, did you download the BabasChess interface? There are many to choose from, and this, imo, is by far the best, because it's easy to use and comes with a computer that analyzes your moves that can significantly improve your game.
Jon, it seems like you'd be a lot better than me. I just started playing seriously, and my school doesn't have a chess club. You sound like you're just being modest.

No, I really feel I am horrible. That is probably because I have been around so many people way better than me though.
My handle is JonHecht, I really need to stop playing half asleep, down to like 1760. I should continue to crash a bit, as I just switched openings, then I will pick up again.

It was awesome. I just wish magician dude had been a little more impressive. It's disappointing that I know exactly how he did those tricks, and magic was a minor hobby of mine as a child at best.
