On the one hand, it's nice that he doesn't wiggle about it with any nonsense about not inhaling.

On the other hand, I hate it when people excuse (stupid/illegal) things like it was impossible to do otherwise.

I never agreed with the "I didn't inhale" line. It sounded like a lie.

At least Obama was honest. If we agreed on the issues, then I would vote for the guy. I do like his personality.

It's also been out in the open for years, so I'm not sure why someone would have just recently asked such a stupid question as "Did you inhale?" He's already admitted to using cocaine, which pretty much requires inhaling. Did they think that perhaps he was more timid with the marijuana?

Well kat, depending on where you grow up, certain stupid/illegal things are the norm and quite hard to avoid.

I grew up in a middle-class suburb in Connecticut. Not the top half of the financial ladder, but certainly not on the low end either. And if it turned out that I was the only one who went to my high school who never tried or regularly used drugs or alcohol, I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't think it was as extreme as that, but I was certainly in the minority.

I think the question was a little bit of a joke. But I think he had a good answer to the question. First, he attacked the question (not the questioner) for being stupid, and it is, because it's a really dumb distinction to try and make. Is anyone gullible enough to think not inhaling is a real answer? And second, he unequivocally stated that his actions in his youth were stupid and it took a lot of work to overcome the problems they caused.

I'd say he knocked it out of the ballpark.

That's how I feel about Mike Huckabee. There's a lot I don't like about his policies, but he really does strike me as an honest, GOOD guy. Fortunately I have Obama who I also think is an honest good guy, but also happens to have policies I agree with. [Smile]

I'm heartened by his gains in New Hampshire and Iowa.

I have to agree. If I knew nothing about his policies, his Chuck Norris commercial might have inspired me to vote for him. [Wink]

Sooner or later, North American -- the U.S. in particular -- is going to have to get over its drug hysteria. Drugs aren't the great satan, mmkay?

I really don't see it happening. I think the US as a whole would have to be okay with plenty of drugs that are legal with a prescription first, and I don't see that happening at all.

It's funny, but some stuff we should probably freak out less about I don't see us softening up on. But some stuff we SHOULD be freaking out about we let slide by. For example we're too clean. I read a report recently that said we don't let kids be exposed to things that later in life would serve them, like some basic allergens, which leads to kids in developed countries having twice the rates of asthma as kids in developing nations. And our overuse of drugs and bacteria killers is leading to more superstrains.

And yet when it comes to a much larger scale, such as energy consumption, pollution, safe water; we're not clean enough. It's almost like our country enjoys being nitpicky, but not logical [Wink]
