In general, I'm tried to be optimistic (or at least non-judgmental) about the mining of certain childhood favorites for new films.

And hey, I've even enjoyed the results of some efforts.

Still, this is a -very- bad idea.

Stephen, Will...you're wonderful. Both of you. But don't go through with it. PLEASE, don't!

I'm not OLD enough to remember when the originals of remakes came out! [Eek!]

Fact: I can name more than one 1990s film off the top of my head that is currently in development as a remake.

I don't think there's any time limit...remakes have been around almost as long as film itself. As long as rights can be obtained to the story, a remake can be done. Heck, the new Hulk remake's coming out a mere five years after the previous attempt to start a franchise. [Eek!]

I've never watched Karate Kid but the ironic bit is that Stephen Chow already made a movie in 1994 that seems to parody much of "kid learns kungfu to beat up bullies" thing in a movie called "Love on Delivery." review link

Much of the plot revolves around a fake kung-fu master that tries to swindle Stephen Chow's character who is a kid trying to stand up to a bully.

I think the most annoying remake was the 2003 Freaky Friday. Disney did a made for tv version in 1995.

Karate Kid is one of those things that doesn't require a remake.

I can only imagine what crappy song they'll replace "You're the Best Around," with.

At the risk of dodging bullets for this, I hate that song with a passion, everything about it.

I do not know how anybody could elect to listen to that song on purpose.

I actually loved those 3 Ninjas movies when I was a kid, couldn't get enough of them.

I LOVE "You're the Best Around." Of all the 80's training/fight montages, it's probably my favorite, although much of Rocky IV could give it a run for its money. Oh original soundtracks just aren't what they used to be.

There are a few movies that I wouldn't mind seeing remakes of. The problem is, they are usually some of my favorites and I don't want them to be ruined. Beetlejuice comes to mind. (Though I'm not sure that anybody but Micheal Keaton can pull that roll off)

The original runor was that Jaden Smith would be the kid in it, making this a very different movie than the original. They just couldn't do to him what they did to that high schooler without starting a riot.

If it's different enough that it's basically another version of it, like Ever After and Cinderella, than I'm ok. If it's too similar I just don't see a point.

I wish they would remake bad movies - good scripts or sources that had a shoddy treatment. That would be much more worthwhile.

The upside of remaking the karate kid is they don't need the writers for a new script. [Big Grin]

I think Karate is from Okinawa which is kind of in between.
