So I just found out (I'm a bit behind after moving states late last month) that Journeyman isn't being renewed.

[Mad]

I know it's stupid to get upset by the end of a TV show, but seriously, how come great shows like Rome, Deadwood, Journeyman, Firefly, etc all wind up cancelled while shows like, well, pretty much everything else on TV seem to have faithful audiences that allow their regurgitated dreck to air for decades?!?!?

bugger.

I'm still upset about Arrested Development. I'm in denial.

The great shows are great because they are cancelled, before the creator's vision is lost.
Everything else jumps the shark very quickly, at least by the end of the 3rd season. With time, writers become too sympathetic toward their characters; retconning nasty flaws into charming eccentricities and irritating quirks into terms of endearment.

I didn't start watching until late in the season. It was a great show. Why?

I now have nothing left to watch. That was the last good show and I loved it best. Guess I can cancel cable. Heavy school semester this spring anyway...

I don't really care, as long as Pushing Daisies isn't canceled.

ch-CHAW! ch-CHAW!

They kept it going for 2 and a half seasons, which was 1 and a half seasons longer than any other show with ratings as dismal as AD's. That was a show meant for HBO, and it's too bad.

House is good, and it's still going strong. So's Lost.

Going strong, but not good.

You don't like House? Are you a doctor? Because I can imagine the show not being very entertaining to someone who might know the first thing about being a doctor, but I'm blissfully ignorant.

Unless you were talking about Lost. It has taken a bit of a dive quality-wise in the last season, but that's nothing compared to the meteoric fall of 24 in season 6.

I'm a nurse, and I crack up whenever I catch an episode of House, at the things that they get so wrong.

Here's a question that I wondered about while watching Lost: If you make a small incision in someone's kidney sac during surgery, will that person's heart immediately start beating faster, blood pressure drop, and pretty much be dead in the hour if the incision is not sewn up?

Pushing Daisies was green lit for a full season, assuming this season finishes at all.

Journeyman is specifically why this year I decided not to watch any of the new shows until they were picked up for a full season. I'm not investing myself in shows anymore until I have a guarantee that my investment is worthwhile.

No loyalty from the studios means no loyalty from me, no more viewings of new shows until I'm guaranteed at least a full season. It's my new tv creed.

I meant that Lost isn't good. I love House.

House is good because of the characters... well... character (singular), because lets face it, everyone else is just there for House to insult. Dexter is still awesome, and I find myself anxiously awaiting the return of Heroes and BSG. I will admit though, that all of the above shows were better in the first season.

Being an employee in a casino, I've been indoctrinated with the philosophy of quitting while you're ahead. It applies to more than just gambling. Seasons past the first on a show are like sequels to a movie. They are almost never better than, or even as good as, the original (with the exception of Terminator). Of course, this doesn't apply to stories that are purposely broken into multiple parts, like Lord of the Rings.
